Sorry if its a dumb question but im trying to get my cdl from a trucking school in ny and they got this course in a cdl class a package which i don't know if its an actual course i have to go to class for or its a medical card that cdl drivers must have. The school didn't bother to answer the question for me so i need help so i don't have to spend unnecessary amount of money.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Sorry I'm a little confused as too the question.

You will need to complete both a 160 hour or more course as well as obtaining a Medical card which you will have to do first.
