I'm doing good and alright, its funny this post came back up, I was thinking about TT, ive been busy. This run has seen me mainly i5 dedicated doing Costco deliveries of paper products and dry pet foods. Alot of CA driving which is ugh, but good experience. Today I did manage to get myself lost in downtown, near Oakland. Took me over an hour to sort it out with dispatch, research map and sat view on my phone and then execute my plan of exfiltration. I missed the 980W bypass which would have then routed me onto 880 and then eventually back onto 580. It was quite the adventure for sure, nerve wracking too having to drive in and around a downtown area like that, but I found my way out.
Over all, yes I am killing it, trying to remain humble and open and learn as much as I can without it going to my head. Yall can call me crazy, but there hasn't been a single Costco run that I haven't liked (save for the fact they have been in CA), I really like their set up and how they communicate (using the red and green lights, they aren't the only shippers/receivers to do that I know) and their paperwork process is really streamlined, some ofbthe places I've been to could learn an thing or two from CCW. Plus they give you plenty of space to straight back. The one in downtown SF is cool (save for the fact that well.....its downtown SF), its basically a humongous underground parking structure with enough room for a 70 footer with sleeper to pull straight forward in it! Really cool!
I did a total of 8556 miles in May and tryijg to exceed that this month legally. Im currently running on my recap hours and plan to take 1 34 hour next weekend at our home terminal to resupply food and water. Speaking of which this early summer has been crazy AF hot out on the west coast. CA by Dunnigan and the east side of SF bay has seen as hot as 102 a day, memorial day the pilot at Dunnigan registered 118! I'm like WTF, we are going to be in for a hot summer, I got 8 gallons of water under the bunk plus extra food in case of a breakdown.
Yes packrat and I did talk yesterday, about alot of things ,mainly the price of cars being ridiculous due to a chip shortage? I'm keeping my 22 year old ranger for a while, I beleive we are due for a credit crunch/reset of some sort with all this spend spend spend since 2008. I told pack rat that ive worked to keep my rent up and my housing secure, when all this government intervention goes away there's going to be alot if surprised and desperate people.
Just the other day, I went into HR to sign up for my benefits and the hr gal told me they can't get any applicants willing to take on our vacant DM positions, much less driving jobs. IN FACT, she confided in me that many people apply for the open positions and then immediately advise that they just did it to keep up the UE insurance payments! I'm like what the HELL? I think when things settle from the Wuhan scamdemic, some of those folks are in for a nasty shock of reality.
I'm glad I got started right when I did. Things are getting smoother with my DM too, I had to learn how to better communicate and not react and understand where she is coming from as well. My trip planning has gotten better as I have become more familiar with our routes and routing. It just took time lol.
Anyway, I gotta be up and rolling by 445, ill ttyl.
How’s it going Moe?
Shipper:
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
Terminal:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Dm:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
HOS:
Hours Of Service
HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
