Scott I couldn't find anthing about the VA training facility on the mobile site. I'll look again on a real computer. But so you know where it is? Also, do they have a pet policy? It's not a deal breaker, but I would love a place that would allow me to have my dog.

I attended it last month, it's in Ridgeway, right on the North Carolina border near there terminal in Eden, NC (only a mile apart). They don't allow pets, riders yes. Small class sizes and tons of behind the wheel time (3 week with guaranteed employment), nice range with no more than 2 students to a truck for backing practice, road driving depends on the class size (12 is max) so max road driving is 6 to a truck. They training and you'll get licensed on a manual, and probably start solo on one, as they are phasing those models out and newbies get the older equipment but within a year you'll get a automatic, same goes for the TV and direct tv, only about 2/3 of the trucks have them but within a year they all will.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

All Celadon trucks have apu's , They don't usually work correctly. Won't last for your whole 10 hour break. Frowns on idling, like most companies, but if the apu batteries are drained, and its 110 degrees...how are you expected to get rest?

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Awww....too bad for no pets. I've never driven a manual before in any capacity so I'm hoping to learn quickly before going anywhere. But the automatic sounds nice. As for tv, it's not really my thing. I'll take consistent air conditioning and my dog over tv any day. But like I said it's not a deal breaker. I'll check into the company. That area I think is about a 5 hour drive from me.
