truck driver suffers heart attack and dies after pulling overTruck driver suffers heart attack, pulls over before dying

DEL MAR (CNS) - The driver of a big rig managed to pull his vehicle over before dying of an apparent heart attack on Interstate 5 in the Del Mar area early Thursday, authorities said.

The incident on northbound I-5 north of Via De La Valle was reported at 7:26 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver had pulled to the right shoulder prior to dying, CHP Officer Tommy Doerr said.

Paramedics attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man but were unsuccessful, the CHP reported.

His identity will be released once his family is notified.

The true definition of a "Professional" driver!

So very sad. It does point out that we should take care of our bodies and get regular check ups. Many of you know that I was a Paramedic for years before switching to trucking. So many times, heart attacks like these come with warning signs long before it actually happens. Please guys and girls, if you have some chest pain or left arm numbness, get it checked out. It is amazing what modern medicine can do to prevent events like this. I really hope this trucker's family and friends can find peace in their time of loss.

Bless that driver! What a hero for managing to pull over! This would have been a whole different story if he hadn't.

I'm sure that if you're final act on this earth is concern for the safety of others then you should definitely get some bonus points from the great scorekeeper in the sky.

Surely you must be joking.....they don't all DOT officers into heaven. embarrassed.gif

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
