Seriously? The flu is not contagious? Wow, that might be the most obtuse comment I've ever read. Is the common cold not contagious? How about Ebola? Your experience with your girlfriend, who probably pays you bills, is not indicative of the entire population.

Before citing reports found on Newsmax, pleeeeeease pick up a high school or college 101 biology book. Both the flu and the virus they’ve classified as Covid 19 are contagious. Symptoms vary drastically from person to person and while the mortality rate of Covid is similar to influenza, your claims are wildly imaginative. One of the biggest problems we’re seeing with this virus is the vast disconnect at the extremes of both sides, with the truth and facts being in the middle for people to see if they’ll just research for themselves.

There are many theories out there about whether viruses even exist at all. I won't take a deep dive here, but if you're interested, look into the history of viruses. You'll find that there's a large group of scientists that do not believe viruses exist at all. There have been tons of experiments over the years to prove that viruses are contagious, and as far as I know, no one has ever proven that definitively.

It sounds crazy because they have programmed us to believe that if you question authority, you're a conspiracy theorist or a wacko.

Things are not like the medical profession would like you to believe. They'd like us to believe they're the ultimate authority on almost everything. They have almost everything figured out. We should just declare ourselves ignorant and helpless, turn to doctors for everything, and keep our wallets open.

I've been a science and technology fan since I was a little kid. I knew every Apollo mission and who was on them when I was in fourth grade. My entire life, I've loved science and tech. At almost 50 years old, the most horrifying thing I've learned through the years is that scientists of all kinds, doctors, and software engineers do not have anywhere near as many answers as they would like us to believe. I mean, it's appalling.

When were the pyramids built? They don't actually know.

How did the moon get there? They don't actually know.

How did ancients build walls and monuments made of 100-ton stones? They don't actually know.

How do you cure the common cold or male-pattern baldness or pimples (seriously???) They don't actually know. If they do know, they're not telling us. You decide which is worse.

A tiny example of why I'm so mistrusting (and rightfully so!):

If you get a wart on your hand and go to the doctor, what will they do? They'll burn it off with liquid nitrogen and charge you $150. Most of the time, it won't work. You'll have a terrible sore on your hand for a while, and when it heals, the wart will still be there. I have a friend who went to her doctor twice and then a dermatologist to get a tiny wart removed. After three attempts and $500 later (covered by insurance), the wart was still there.

I told her to buy a tiny jar of minced garlic in olive oil and put a drop on it a few times a day. Three days later, it was gone completely. Never returned.

Are you telling me that doctors and dermatologists don't know that garlic oil gets rid of warts? Of course they do! Then why don't they tell us?

Be careful who you trust. Verify everything.

If I sound paranoid, it's because you're too trusting. You're not looking at things with a critical eye the way you should, especially in our current crisis.

I'm 68 years old and I have gotten the flu and colds many times by being exposed to those who had it. Viruses can spread. I haven't had the flu for many years because I get vaccinated. I don't believe that there is a great conspiracy to get people into a sheep herd about vaccinations. I also don't believe that Trump lost the election because of voter fraud. But I do believe that the 1% of the wealthy are looking for additional ways to screw over the 99% of blue color workers like truck drivers

Midnight Fox, I respectfully disagree. They mean it literally the way they said it.

My observation is there's a difference between what the Department of Homeland Security said and what NBC Nightly News said. Their news story was about the DHS report I linked to.

The report is how the government said what they said; the picture is the Powerpoint slide the television network displayed while saying whatever they said about the report. There may be a transcript somewhere.

I couldn't know if the government is following that playbook, but as far as what they're saying goes, they make the distinction between opposing covid measures and believing unsubstantiated narratives about the election and the violent extremists who are also coming from those perspectives who have already commited and may commit acts of violence and terror.

On the surface that's no different from making the useful distinction between followers of Islam and Islamic fundamentalist extremists. When some individuals are physically assaulting teachers because their children are wearing a piece of cloth on their face in school, I doubt it's a stretch that violent extremists may also be organizing their violence around covid measures.

Greg, IMHO . . . this thread is as 'toxic' as any flu . . . as well. It's gotten TOOOOO politico, and off our beat & path as TT.

Please don't be haste. I love your input here; I truly do. I'm not the only one, either.

I think this WHOLE thread has gone far enough left & right that I've traversed the world 2x in my head.

I have yet to see a forum online that does NOT become toxic when politics get involved (particularly regarding Covid). The whole tone of this thread is a far departure from what the mission of this board is supposed to be.

While I don't support the notion of "censorship"... there are times when perhaps a thread should be ended in order to preserve the type of board you want to have (friendly, helpful, welcoming)

Just my 14 cents after taxes, fees, and regulatory charges.
