I do have an auto restriction on my CDL. I trained in one and I never got a chance to go home and take the DMV road test to get it removed. You think it will hurt my chances?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

It definitely might, we only have manuals.

They may train you in one sp you can have it removed, I think my terminal did that for someone.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I’m honestly not sure how OD will handle that. I’ll defer to Bobcat on that. But either way I think you will have to go to the dmv , test in a manual and have it removed. I think that’s the only way. But I could be wrong man.

It all depends on what the terminal needs, they may make you do it before hiring you. Or they may elect to train you in a manual and take you for test.

Here's hoping that they would work with me to get the restriction removed. I was thinking of sending an email asking that exact question.

Did the application ask about any restrictions?

I'd wait until you're speaking to the person you have to speak to, instead of sending an email. You don't know who's reading and responding to them and they may just go with a textbook response if they're not aware of other options.

There was no mention of any restrictions on the application or requirements. I did put it on my resume as well. But I will mention that during the interview.

I'm surprised it didn't ask, personally I agree with Banks, wait until the interview tell them you trained in one and just need to practice a bit and take the test.

I know a lot of people here feel testing in a manual is a waste of time " because nobody has them" however this is the sort of problem it can cause having a "auto" restriction.

I wouldn't see it as a waste of time at all. I feel like it would be an advantage to know 10 speed.
