I know Brett had a great thread about this and I agree completely with him on the subject.

Do any of you know if there are any trucking companies that already require the shot and do you think all will eventually go that route?

There may be some. There are more than 150,000 trucking companies, from one truck to tens of thousands.

Great question. I wonder if we could turn this thread into a list of companies that do require it if any? It would be helpful info to have a list of for those looking to get into the industry or looking around for a new company to drive for.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Most companies have problems finding even unvaccinated drivers, otherwise why would they be offering hire bonuses? So it doesn't look realistic to see such a requirement...

Tyson may be one of the first. They require all employees to be vaccinated but I’m not sure if it applies to drivers as well. One of the chicken meal plants we load out of had 10 people quit this week.

From what I've gathered, Tyson Fleet drivers is a yes.

Same with CVS Private Fleet drivers; just read that yesterday.

Nope.

There is currently no known nationwide movement to require mandatory vaccines for truckers. Several major corporations such as Walmart and Tyson, which employ thousands of truck drivers, have mandated the vaccine for some workers but, as of now, not for their transportation fleet employees.

I checked several of their help wanted ads online. Most of their non-CDL job postings have this disclaimer:

Successful applicants for this position must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Vaccine verification will be required by October 1, 2021 for Corporate based team members and by November 1, 2021 for Plant and Warehousing based team members.

That disclaimer does not appear on their CDL driver ads. It does for their Dispatcher/back up driver ads, but that's for the dispatcher part not the driver part.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

The Tyson I deliver to has a new "so-called" policy regarding unvaccinated drivers. Supposedly, we have to jump through hoops to get our BOL's signed and drop our trailer. I say "supposedly" because I delivered to this Tyson, waited outside 15 minutes for someone to come out and sign my BOL so I could leave. Nope, no one came out. I said "screw this," went inside and asked Receiving why no one came out. His reply? "You would have been waiting all day. No one would have come out." I showed him the new policy, and he just laughed. "Oh, that is just to keep drivers from wandering around." Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled. So far, it is business as usual at this particular Tyson
