Ok Ladies of wisdom. I wanted to know if anyone else is struggeling to get past the employment history part. I have been a Student and house wife for 7 years or so. I am not getting a great response from the Companies that offer sponsored training. Is it a better route to save and attempt a school opposed to a company paid one? Also is there any companies that allow pets other than ffe?. Cental Ref just drug me through all the hoops then turned and said they have to many more qualified applicants?. I am educated and have over 20 years in Social Services, unfortunately my experience in 1989-2007 and being a single parent my schooling has been off and on due to finances? Any Ideas ladies.

Stephanie...we are glad to have you here...and we will help you all we can..you came to the right place !!! There are a few different ways to get into trucking....and schools to train you. If you have a community college, they may offer a CDL class. And they also probably have companies who hire right out of their school. Also, if your unemployed, the employment division sometimes pays your way thru cdl school, especially women, since we're kept closer to the poverty line anyway. There are also private schools,,,but leave those until last, unless you have go the $$ upfront...A company sponsored school is best, since they train you, then let you drive for them to pay it off, usually a year. After tat year is over, you have experience, and you can change companies if you want!! Finding a company that allows pets may be hard...tho I've never understood it. CRE isn't one of my favorites, but theres been alot of folks thru here that went thru CRE and really loved the school. But utilize the information on this site...it helps alot. And it will help you get thru your permit tests, and your CDL school.... And if you have any questions....holler em out !!!! Thats what we're here for. And you can post in this forum, or the regular truckers forum...its up to you... WELCOME !!!! We're so glad you found us !!!!!!

  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.

I had the same problem, but England took me anyway's. There are veey few who will. I didnt pass there so I went back home and started again and ran into the same problem until now. Monday I start at Quality drivers a school for Celadon. They took my last 3 years worth of taxes i had done with my husband. They excepted that in place of my verafiable work history. I am so excited to be out there again.

Stephanie, I am interested in what Central did, how far in the application process did you get before they turned you away? I have applied with Central and I am waiting until the May 20th class. I don't want to get that far and then have them tell me no. Use this site to look at different options and Good Luck,...don't give up! Keep us posted! Kathy

I did the entire application and pre qualification and was asked when I wanted to start. I said april 1st. They sent me to last aspect of job refrences and all the forms filled out Releases and such. I was told i'd be contacted for travel arrangements. Two weeks went by so I got curiouse called them back and talked to the recruter and he just plain said Oh' yea well we wont be able to take you this time around, thanks for applying.I asked why and he said oh we have too many more qualified applicants. He was rude and un responsive to 2 other messages i left.

Stephanie M.,

Thank you for your question, I have been wanting to ask the very same question about the same thing, Employment Verification, I have had a very hard time of it for a few years and this section of the application is daunting to me. I had/have decided that when I fill out an application I will be sure to include a letter explaining why I have been unemployed but able to keep my head above water.

Any input here would be great, I so very much want to become a driver and will jump through most hoops, as long as its kept honest, lol

Its always hard when you don't have the employment history that they want. BUT...heres a few under the table facts about trucking companies...They LIKE lady drivers. It seems we take better care of their equipment, don't waste our time in strip clubs, and don't let lot lizards in their trucks, and we work harder, and are on time more than not. So, that being said, you just need to apply to every company that you come across. Flood them with paperwork...one of them wil pick you up and train you. Spend your year with them,if need be, and then pick a better company if your not happy where you are. So don't lose faith...its your dream, your adventure....chase after it, trip it, and jump on it !!!

I am very happy to see this post. My boyfriend is at Prime as I type right now, I have had a very hard time finding a job, but I finally landed a job waiting tables ( not really happy about that since that is what I have done most of my life, but I gotta do what I gotta do)however, our plan is: Once he finishes all of his training and he has his own truck, I am going on the road with him to make sure driving is what I want to do...I know I would love the traveling and the lifestyle, my only hesitation is being behind the wheel since I have never driven anything that big!!! Now, assuming I choose to drive so we can be a team, how is that going to look to a company that I quit my job to ride with my boyfriend? (when all I am doing is making sure that is the right decision for me before I commit.) Is this a smart idea or not?

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
