My DM totally appreciated the position I took. We talked about it. They definitely don't want us running when we're not comfortable. And they really do seem to care about safety first.
As someone who is still in the process of getting into the industry, I will admit that one of my fears is being pushed to drive when I just don't feel comfortable doing so safely. It's reassuring to read post after post where a company totally supports a driver not pushing it for the sake of a load.
On another note, in the future I will be a little bit less impatient when waiting on a package delivery that is possibly being delayed by a driver who has decided that it just isn't safe.
Dm:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
