There is nothing illegal about hitting a orange cone or barrel. Construction crews use them to help identify their safe space for their work. Most of the time they put the cones very far out to give them more room. This past summer I-85 in Georgia was being paved at night. The crew set up cones almost down the center of the open lane and basically pushed traffic into the grass medium. That is not a safe place to have a loaded CMV ride half on and off the roadway. I was going slow and cautious while running over 1 mile of cones. A Georgia State Trooper watched me run them over and ignored it. I'm not gonna roll a truck over some cones..
