So how many of you comply with the request from children and/or adults to sound off with the air horn. I had my first request to do this yesterday and I declined to do it. I remember as a kid trying to get truckers to blow the horn buy only a few did. It's there an unwritten rule, or written for that matter on this.

A long time ago it was done regularly, but now it is discouraged, as it might cause an accident, if there are other drivers in the area. If I am on a rural stretch of road and kids ask me to do it, and no other vehicles are around, I might do it.

The city horn or horn on the steering wheel is the only one your allowed or supposed to use when other traffic is around. Very few actually follow this. Air horns are only supposed to be used in case of an emergency to get immediate attention.

Honestly unless a cop is having a bad day I doubt one will write ya a ticket for tooting the air horn for kids but you have to be smart about it.

Yeah, that always broke my heart when the kids would be laughin and signaling for me to pull the air horn in heavy traffic because I wouldn't do it. I would if there wasn't much traffic around, but I didn't want to startle anyone. So if I wasn't comfortable pulling the air horn I would wave and blink my lights at em. If I did pull the air horn I'd make sure I did like three quick bursts which sounds a lot less terrifying than one long pull. If I heard a truck out of the blue just laying on the horn steady I would almost certain I was about to be crushed.

I've only sounded my air horn once for kids in 11 months of driving. I was on I-84 in Oregon and no other cars were close so I did the short two burst on the horn. They got a kick out of it but I don't do it if other cars are near.
