2 sides;

This thread was INCREDIBLY ... TRUTH & FINE; an experience in 'reality' for what students, in fact, MAY endure, with trainers!

I passionately believe there ARE GREAT ONES, that enjoy what they do. Daniel B. has some positivity about being a trainer for Prime, years ago; as does Ernie, aka: Salty Dog. (Wonder what happened to him?)

Sidebar, again to Prime: Rainy has some DANG stories. From being a student, and then to training them!!! .... (At least your trainer didn't use your Gatorade as a wiz jug! Kearsey endured THAT! It's on here, somewhere!)

Training IS a rite of passage, IMHO. I'll see soon enough, my DANG SELF, haha!

You KNOW I'm always following. IMHO, it's better to just chill & go home for Xmas than get hemmed up in a recovery. No dis, Davy! Holidays just throw some 'major' curveballs, in many ways! Tom did one, once (I think for Transport America) and it was such a shzzz show, that it actually put him a day BEHIND picking up his tractor, when all was said & done. No cell pix back in 04 or 05, but man... he had some 'instamatics' and it was SOOOOOO GROSS.... i don't even think I kept the pix, haha! I literally Lysol'd the mudroom (and him) when he got home!

I just wish you the best, man. You're almost there; what a way to start a NEW YEAR!

Peace, and enjoy the HOLIDAYS! YOU MADE IT; PLENTY TO CELEBRATE!!!

I'll be looking for your new thread, as it happens! You got this, man.

My training with Knight has come to an end. The experience was interesting and fun. I was fortunate to experience OTR and local driving while in training. Much respect to those that run OTR. That is not for everyone, those that do it are a different type of breed. Had the opportunity to drive 3 different trucks, 2020 Volvo, 2020 Freightliner Cascadia and a 2019 International. In my opinion the International was the better truck overall. It would be the Volvo but the seats were not comfortable for driving. The Freightliner was too jumpy and Jerry while shifting.

Drove in the rain, snow and sleet. Up and down mountain roads, on 2, 3 and 4 lane highways, residential streets, through tight construction lanes and in the blinding sun through the pitch dark of night. I learned a lot. Driving bobtail to pulling an empty to a full load, there is a significant difference in the feel of the truck. Paying attention and being alert is paramount when on the road. Knowing and exercising the Smiths system 5 keys is crucial while driving. Danger lurks at every inch of every mile and a catastrophe can happen in the blink of an eye. Constantly checking mirrors and knowing what's around the truck is a good habit to help prevent a dangerous situation.

Getting enough sleep, trip planning and preparation can make the run go smoothly. Good time management can eliminate the need for rushing which can lead to an unnecessary accident. Paying attention to road signs is also beneficial and can help set you up to be in a favorable position while driving.

Up next is following a flatbed driver for a week in my own truck to learn how to tarp and strap loads. I want to thank everyone for following along with me on my journey. It's been a fun, interesting, stressful at times experience but very glad I made this choice. I appreciate the comments and support from all of you that helped me along the way. Thank you, thank you, thank you! See yall out on the road. Stay safe, shiny side up!!

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

2 Sides; you are impeccably welcome....if even 2 things I have said made a difference, I'm HAPPY!!!

You've endured SO MUCH. Yes, you have. I'm glad it's FINALLY rocking forward for you, good sir.

Tom did 6 plus years OTR , and I was almost a 'single mom' (felt like) as it was all when the kids were VERY young. Yes, it's a certain breed. It was a necessity for us, at the time, however.

You're FINE getting on w/the gig you are; I'm so happy YOU MADE IT!

Best of luck on your 'following!' I think that's an EXCELLENT training mantra, personally. If I were entertaining flatbed, I'd consider such! (At my age, height, weight . . I'd be Mary Poppins 2.0 !)

You always keep it real, 2 sides. This diary is priceless to so many futures, I promise you!

Best ALWAYS!
