My one year contract with Prime is over on the 12 of January, and I'm planning to get a regional position. I'm planning to send HR a message on the qualcomm today to let them know that I'm resigning on the 13th as a 2 week notice. Is a message on the qualcomm enough? Thanks.

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

If I could I would tell my DM in person also. Do you actually have the regional job lined up? I would not jump ship without having another position. Talk w your DM they may have something for you. I am sure many Prime drivers will chime in soon. May the good lord shine a light on you!

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

All you need do is message your fleet manager with a date. As a courtesy give a two week notice. However tell him you want regional and you may get it. We do actually have various regional positions. At least in reefer and TX flatbed.

Thanks for the responses. I'll also let my DM know. I'll ask to see if they have any regional position available. Thanks you.

Do you already have a regional position, as in already hired by another company?

My first time reading that blog, G-town. The grass is not always greener on the other side. I touched base just recently w the daughter of my training partner from Stevens. Although I am a little disappointed he has not got in touch w me. I found out he stayed w Stevens almost 7 years. Last time I spoke w him we both had barely 3 months experience. He was upset about not seeing his daughters enough etc, he was considering moving on. Hometime is not the best at Stevens. 30 days out 7 home maybe! Jeff stuck it out for 7 years b4 his health forced him out of otr. Ramble on!

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Perspective... I stayed with Swift up until September of this year, 8+ years. Had it not been for a move (by choice), I’d still be with them running Walmart.
