Brett
This a great site you and/or your group have created.
You mentioned that you were working on an apple app but that was a year ago. Have you launched an apple app? I am not much for paying for apple apps but you have "paid this forward" and would be interested in paying a few dollars more even than the Andr' app.
Now my tail and your advise as you see fit.
I will be taking the ILL CDL Tests. Just Comp, Air, Basic and what ever I forget but nothing more than just Tractor/trailer.
It has been said on this forum by a Mod that you do not need to read the state's (ILL almost 200 pages) (and Idaho more that that - Do not remember it being that many pages 8 years ago) CDL manual. But seem to remember at the beginning of HR or somewhere that you should review the Signs Section.
I am re reading HR and taking the test again but this time I am making notes by copy/paste to Wordpad.
Not going to sell it so hope that is ok with you.
But as I go a while with out the material being fresh in my mind it gets gray. But if you have a study sheet that you can skim the "20 - 45 psi" etc. a few times it clears the fog.
There was a guy on the forum that named his blog something like "CDL on my own" which is what I am doing. As you can see below the advise to him is not applicable to me. I am not looking for a trucking job, just trying to help a friend and have some fun. But I still need to complete the CDL requirements. He has a 1/4 mile lane into the farmstead and large parking lot so maybe we can get by with out a learners permit. I have a 34ft 5th wheel and have driven it to FL and TX not to mention pulling new RV's from Indiana to dealers in winter and mountains.
I have a farmer friend that wants me to drive his 2 simi's during harvest. I drove his tractor with a large 2 wheel grain trailer in tow along side of the moving combine last fall. But now he wants this 71 year old to get a CDL.
I drove a KW cabover with flatbed for the bank (if you know what I mean) in pre CDL times (1981) and had a CDL issued in Idaho for 7 years until over a year ago. At that time and place Idaho had a designated CDL Inspector and the test was short and I past even though I took it cold turkey.
As I referenced above things seem to be different now than even 8 years ago and for sure 1981 when I signed the papers at the bank for the KW and off I dove into the sunset from Pocatello Idaho down the Pendleton Grade to Portland Oregon without ever having set in a semi before.

New! Check out our help videos for a better understanding of our forum features
Ok, well it's official - TruckingTruth's first ever mobile app is now live on Google Play! The Android version is up right now and I'm now working on the iPhone/iPad version which hopefully will be up within a few days on Apple's app store.
The mobile app is simply called "CDL Practice Test" and it includes all of the questions from our High Road Training Program except the logbook and weight & balance sections. The reason I left out those two sections is because they don't pertain to getting your CDL permit or endorsements so I wanted to keep this app focused on being a CDL Test preparation tool. The other two sections are going to get their own mobile apps respectively.
The app works equally well on both Android phones and tablets. It includes 565 multiple choice questions, a snippet from the CDL manual containing the answer to each question, and the answers are scored immediately so you can read through that part of the manual while that question is fresh in your mind. It's the perfect companion to our High Road Training Program because it allows you to get in some much needed repetition without having to set aside special time out of your day to do so. Just fire it up and rifle off a few questions anytime you have a chance - during tv commercials, in line at the grocery store, during your break at work - whenever you have a few moments to spare.
It sells for $2.99 and you can find it here:
