Will this issue follow me if I took my talents to another company?
A failed pre-employment drug screen? Absolutely. Your first step is to find out what happened with your drug screen. Create an account at the FMCSA Clearinghouse and see what it says. If you failed your drug screen you'll need to complete an SAP program before you can drive a CMV. Please let us know what it says so we can advise further.
Your other issue is the stale CDL. If you haven't driven in three years you'll need a refresher course before anyone turns you loose with a truck even if you did pass your drug screen.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
The CSA is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are related to commercial motor vehicle
The FMCSA was established within the Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000. Their primary mission is to prevent commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries.
What Does The FMCSA Do?
The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
I would contact Hire Right and request a coy of your report. You, as a driver, can get one free report a year.... It will list all your previous CDL employers, driving history, and any drug tests since you got your CDL permit. If you failed (or refused) a DOT drug or alcohol screen it will be in the report.... It will show any DOT reportable accidents as well. You can dispute any inaccurate info in the report as well, but be prepared to provide verifiable proof of anything you dispute... Most companies will get a report from hire right (or similar company) during the application process, so getting a report will be beneficial to you....

In 2018, I went to a trucking school for US Xpress, and got sent home for admitting to using weed. I was 3 months clean at the time, but i used some CBD from a gas station so I dont know if I passed or failed my drug test. They sent me packing just for admitting it. They told me to enroll in a drug program if I wanted to come back, but I just didnt have the time, or money to get the process started. Fast forward 3 and a half years later, I was told to just go to another trucking school and i would be okay. Will this issue follow me if I took my talents to another company? Thank you in advance
Dm:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
