Ooops forgot.....Get well soon Bruce ya old goat hahaha you got this !
According to this new diet thing I’m trying, eating beans with your potato will help prevent the spike from the potato, but you should limit starchy foods. Supposedly the fiber in the beans slows the starch turning into sugar.
Sweet potatoes are better for your blood sugar for the same reason. Fiber.
Had similar issue several years ago mine was 399. Sent Dr high right. Gave me 60 days to work on it with diet. Remember being happy at 240 and coming down. Went on South Beach III maintenance, basically Nothing white, no flour, no sugar, no pasta, no potatoes. Lost 45lbs in roughly 4-6 mos and blood glucose has maintained below 115. I can eat a baked potato and watch it spike for two days. Dr said he didn’t care how much I ate but what. Been heavy all my life SB III was the first time It didn’t feel like I was starving. Best of luck will keep you in thoughts and prayers.

Another way to reduce the effect of potatoes on blood sugar is to cook them, then refrigerate them over night. It turns the starches into resistant starch that doesn't get converted into sugar.
Get well Bruce. My doc and I worked hard together. He put me on metformin. Was 2000 mg now down to 500mg. Also, my vegan diet is helping also.
My blood sugar number was 600 when I first got to the hospital.
Man, sorry to hear but grateful they got it under control and it sounds like no lasting damage. Hopefully with diet, exercise and meds it will keep from getting worse.
Thoughts and prayers for you. My brother is a diabetic and I suffer from hypoglycemic issues. I know the disease well.
Wow, prayers for you Bruce. Obviously lots of good advice from people with firsthand experience.
I once bought a second home from a guy and asked him about his electric bill and he mentioned his teapot is on constantly. He explained he drank fenugreek tea several times a day and a doctor saw good enough results that he did not go onto medication. I'm not much into that sort of thing but he explained that this herb is found in Indian stores and worked wonders for him. China and India both have huge populations that rely largely on natural remedies and many of these are supported by conventional medical studies. I would not suggest that this alone is something you should try but maybe in combination with other dietary changes can be helpful.
Praying you get better soon Bruce.
One of the symptoms of high blood sugar is blurred vision. Everyone here knows how serious that is when driving. I experienced that and I’m very thankful that I was able to shut down before anything bad happened. Drive healthy, drive safe.
