Hello everyone I need some help please I currently got my cdl license the end of December 2021 but I received a ticket the day before I got the ticket in my car driving to Crst school I wasn’t able to fight the ticket and I haven’t paid it yet. Which companies will hire me? I have a good driving record I’ve worked for Amazon and FedEx ground I was just trying to get around traffic going down hill. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

How fast is the ticket for?

I assume it was speeding since you " trying to get around traffic going downhill"

18 over the speed limit

18 over the speed limit is considered reckless driving by the majority of tricking companies. Not good.

You best disclose this to CRST now and “let the chips fall where they may”.

You’ll find a job if you otherwise have a good driving record but your choices will be more limited now. Be honest and disclose it like G town said

By saying you were unable to fight it do you mean you unsuccessfully fought it or that you didn't hire a lawyer to do it? With a CDL or wanting to get your CDL its extremely important to fight every ticket. I received a citation a couple years ago that was $335. I paid the $600 for a lawyer to fight it (and get it dismissed) because the long term ramifications such ticket would have on my career. If it isn't paid by the due date you risk your license being suspended which is going to make your situation even more difficult to overcome.

No I didn’t have the time to go back to Iowa to fight it I left after getting my license to go in the truck with my husband so it was hard to find time to get back there but I am going to pay it this weekend for sure

If I understand correctly you received your CDL because CRST trained you. You are obligated to pay them the cost of your school if that is true. They will make every legal effort to block your employment elsewhere until you’ve fulfilled this. The reasons are of no concern to them.

Another issue is when was the payment due? Some states will put a hold or suspend your license if you do not pay on time. This may also cause you issues getting hired. 18 over is a big deal. You can no longer state you have a good driving record.

Apply everywhere. See who will accept you. Good luck
