After 12 years away from this industry, you should know that most companies are going to treat you as a brand new driver. You will likely have to attend CDL school again, a 160-hour accredited school. While you may have retained the skills and knowledge of driving a big truck, the insurance companies are going to be the reason behind this. It’s doubtful SAGE will allow you to come in, take a driving test, and sign off on another CDL for you. Again, insurance reasons. I feel like you should already know that. This and some other incongrities in your detail of events leave some holes.

Where were you going to drive the rental car to? I thought the only in-house CDL training Schneider provided was in Green Bay, WI. I wasn’t aware either that Schneider provided transportation to Green Bay, and I can pretty much guarantee you that Schneider is not going to provide rental cars plus hotel rooms for every prospective employee. I know that almost 5 years ago when I went through the bulk training in Houston, TX, I had to get myself there from Billings, MT, where I obtained my CDL (also from SAGE), on my own dime. But once I became an employee of Schneider, they rented me cars and put me in hotel rooms whenever necessary.

You seem very intent on dragging Schneider‘s name through mud here… going into such detail about times/hours and phone numbers and recruiters names…do you have a previous experience with them, maybe from 12 years ago? If you could provide a little more info about what you were going to do, where you were going with that rental car, that would be helpful. Moving forward, I wouldn’t hesitate to take the advice already given by others and apply elsewhere. There are plenty of other companies hiring with features and benefits similar to Schneider‘s. I am sorry that you had such a bad experience with them.

You seem to not be very up to date with what Schneider is doing as far as recruiting. Schneider will train to get your CDL, that information is widely known. Schneider's training facility is in Charlotte, NC, rental car from Florida to NC. All training, hotel, rental car and meals paid for by Schneider... would you like me to research anything else for you?

Chuck; I understand your frustration. SNI actually kept Bruce K. in breakdown mode for longer than 'I' would've tolerated. Pete B. has had an excellent run with them, however. Huge company; situations differ via individual experiences, obviously.

I'm not being preachy or ANYTHING here. Pete B. is a beloved member of this forum, that doesn't show up often enough, IMHO.. LoL... I wish I could find Bruce K.'s posts about how they kept 'him' in limbo ... before his medical situation. It wasn't pretty.

ANYWAY.... : Drive CFI (A Florida Friendly Company!)

And THIS, REEFER company with ties to Florida: Dutch Maid Logistics / refresher courses.

Wish you well!

~ Anne ~

ps: Also, a few more 'refresher' companies, if you didn't apply with our attached link: Witte Bros., Raider Express, Pride Transport. You 'might' look into MAST trucking, but .. not sure about Florida.

pps: Bruce K., how long were YOU in breakdown mode with SNI ? I forgot.. was gonna post, sorry. EVERY major company has its fringes and faults....sadly so. Sometimes the INITIAL contact person...is like that FIRST lemon you put in the carafe ... and it 'sours' the rest of the sweetish ones you pined for, as you make lemonade...with the lemons (and limes, oranges, et al...) that life gives you.

Hi Anne, to answer your question, I had 9 breakdowns in 4 months. 4 derates, 2 electrical issues that prevented the truck from starting, 3 bunk heater/inverter failures. Breakdown pay $65 per day. I had to switch trucks numerous times. I just had bad luck, but I think Schneider lost a good driver because of bad equipment. In 4 months I only got paid for 3 months factoring in the breakdowns and Covid time.

I'm not looking for a refresher course because at the moment I do not have my CDL but do have my CDP. I have all my paperwork, DOT physical, drug screening and my bags are still packed ready to go. If just these recruiters would get off their buttocks and give me the time of day I can get on with my life which is now in limbo due to this Schneider situation.

I have contacted CFI - filled out the app, made phone calls, left messages and sent emails. They have responded but still have not actually talked to anyone. Just don't understand why getting past these recruiters is so difficult.

Driver shortage, "we're looking for drivers NOW, no waiting, get your new career started today, blah, blah, blah." "Hello, you have reached the recruiting department. Please leave a message and someone will return your call TODAY." Emails are answered, "Hi, my name is ####. Please feel free to call me ANYTIME with any questions or concerns, here's my direct number."

Dutch Maid had something about starting their own school in February, but can't find anything nor any updates on this, they were my first choice. CFI is my second choice... (cricket, 🦗). I'm now looking into Roehl, perhaps there's a warm blooded live recruiter there that I can actually speak with.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

I’m sorry, Chuck, I was wrong with my thoughts re: Schneider’s policies with new hires. I spoke with a recruiter this morning and confirmed that there are three in-house CDL schools, located in Charlotte, Indianapolis, and Dallas. Upon a successful background check to include a review of one’s MVR , a conditional pre-employment letter is sent out and a prospective employee is provided with a rental car (and hotel if necessary) or flight to either of the three training facilities. With this information, I have no idea why your application was mishandled, or why it couldn’t be sorted out. Again I’m sorry for your experience and hope that you’re able to get on with another carrier.

I appreciate your understanding (everyone). This recruiter had been messing things up from the beginning. I can't seem to get an explanation as to why there was a USA-American Samoa even listed as a possibility, that seems to me very strange.

The recruiter did replay: According to the recruiter he was supposed to set up a rental car to be picked up at the Orlando Airport. So there I was at this airport but the car rental place has no records. The recruiter apologized stating, "My apologies, we mistakenly made to reservations at the Orlando International Airport, instead of the Sanford Airport." I tried explaining to him that that's where I was trying to pick up the rental... at the Orlando International Airport.

He then tried to switch blame to a travel agency. Nope, I called the number they gave me and that person informed me that this recruiter never followed through to make the reservations. I have the documents but seem to be a bit challenged with up loading photos from my iPhone.

You've gotta wait until you see 'success' ... I tested it. It will say 'Go' ... .and then 'sending' first ....and then a photo of what you posted will show a small thumbnail, on the right. THEN, to be sure.. when you do 'preview' .. the full photo will show in your... preview.

ps: Dutch Maid Logistics DOES have a training facility here in Ohio; Kerry is with them (finally solo, now!) currently.

The Florida yard is in the works. I'm not sure of current status, but they DO train! CFI is an excellent choice as well..however!

Ahhh, it's the preview thingy and then send. So much for a college education. Yes, I believe that Dutch Maid trains, but they don't have a "get your CDL" school. I called them today, they were my first choice.
