Check into Millis. They gave CDL schools in Cartersville, Ga. Eden, Nc etc.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Not trying to promote, but if shortest training period is your main motivation, knight has a two week training period, after 1 week of top gun. CDL school for them is 3 weeks long. Have a terminal in Lakeland. No contract. Your first 30k solo is called training but it's essentially just regular old solo.

There are also other companies that have fairly short training lengths, or at least did prior to the new regulations. I'm just not familiar with them. Like any company, as I'm sure you know, there's always good and bad. Some thrive and others don't do so well.

As mentioned, I thought CFI was shorter as well as WE. But I could be way off the mark on that.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Thank you. I'm in touch with a good company now that can hopefully get me into training by the end of this month. Sent in all my paperwork and told them my bags are still pack, but didn't get any into it about schneider. It's a good company even though the pay is still low, but not as low as schneiders.

I can't believe the pay on some of these companies. 12 years ago when I left Shaffer I was making .42 cents a miles, but I was with them for 5 years. 12 years later I jump back into a truck starting out at same pay.

I'm not looking for a refresher course because at the moment I do not have my CDL but do have my CDP. I have all my paperwork, DOT physical, drug screening and my bags are still packed ready to go. If just these recruiters would get off their buttocks and give me the time of day I can get on with my life which is now in limbo due to this Schneider situation.

I have contacted CFI - filled out the app, made phone calls, left messages and sent emails. They have responded but still have not actually talked to anyone. Just don't understand why getting past these recruiters is so difficult.

Driver shortage, "we're looking for drivers NOW, no waiting, get your new career started today, blah, blah, blah." "Hello, you have reached the recruiting department. Please leave a message and someone will return your call TODAY." Emails are answered, "Hi, my name is ####. Please feel free to call me ANYTIME with any questions or concerns, here's my direct number."

Dutch Maid had something about starting their own school in February, but can't find anything nor any updates on this, they were my first choice. CFI is my second choice... (cricket, 🦗). I'm now looking into Roehl, perhaps there's a warm blooded live recruiter there that I can actually speak with.

Hay Chuck!

I just spoke to Joe at DML ... in long detail. Due to the new ELDT reg's that rolled out on the 7th of this month, they are temporarily suspending training. You are correct; Joe Burrows said it's kind of like a 'glitch in the matrix.' That's actually a bummer to hear, they are one of my 'GO TO' Ohio companies, LoL!

So, CFI (or TFI should I say) it is? Or, did the crickets win out, and the RoehlWay win ?!?!? LoL ...

Man, I saw those papers from the rental. I've got NO words.....and I'm rarely speechless. Crazy!!! Wow. Just. Wow.

Another 'diamond' of a training company, should your 'new' first choice fall through, below:

Witte Bros. Training

Best wishes, either way!!

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Yes, I found a good starting place that I think I'm going to like. No Roehl, I've considered them but no. Knight had no jobs available in the Florida area that I could see.

I don't think I'll be doing a diary but I do have a blog that I barely got started. I'm at this Dynasty Truck Driving School and hating every minute of it. Had my CDL 12 years ago and driven for several years. I can basically put the trailer anywhere and can name all the components on the truck.

Today they had everyone do straight backing... I'm so bored out of my mind. There's 10 students per class so in my opinion this school is trying to get as many students through as possible for the money. It is a good school ad they do make sure you're going to pass, but for me I feel like climbing the walls and I have a headache almost every day but I know I gotta get through this to get another job.

There's a student here who talks and acts like she has driven all her life and she did just recently get her CDL so she's just finishing out. Once she gets in the truck she can't drive it worth a crap, but at least she talks a good game.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.
