Omg I'm almost 60 and I know Allll about pot and booze. When I was a kid I needed help been there done that. Those days are long gone. Pot, well not a lover of it never was but it's my vice right now. Easy to give up but forever? Not sure. If anything we're to happen on the road and I had it in my system that would be the end. Forever is a long time. Just deciding how much I want to drive. I'm not an addict never was I always just watch myself and I'm sure that's more then alot of you drivers do.
My email is in my profile. I have 11 years clean. I can point you to some resources that, should you choose to, could help. It's much than a matter of simply quitting.
Irrelevant of what you are doing, also some resources for codependency help. It's almost always bundled with addiction, and from the sounds of the issues you had with your son, some help is needed there.
A new career isn't possible until you fix the bigger issues, be it pot, booze, anything and everything. They are symptoms of a much bigger illness. Help is available.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Tammy, if you are using a controlled substance, even if you stopped today, you would still have to wait up to a year to get a clean drug test. And based on what I know of you, you would be very probable to relapse. So, what’s the point? Give it up, driving is not for you. There are many jobs available out there that don’t involve the dangers you would pose. Please stop posting with your unattainable ambitions.
I agree with Bruce. It seems like you may have some trouble with coping without substances. I think you're underestimating how stressful and frustrating some days can be, especially with training.
Nothing has to happen for it to be the end. I've been pulled in for randoms twice this year and it's only February. I get that random text saying "before you leave, come see me". I already know what it's for because it's the only time I get that message, but they can't tell you that's what it's for.
I'm sure that's more then alot of you drivers do.
I'm not sure what you mean by that. I don't have to watch myself. I don't smoke or drink, ever. It's fairly easy. The only thing I need to get through the day is a cup of coffee and water.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
It's not really for me to say weather someone is an addict or not. It's not my business. But the very definition of drug dependency is exactly as you described.
Basically, the message I would say is, fix your life first and that will allow you to fix your career.
It takes a tremendous amount of courage to honestly sit down with yourself and look at your problems square in the eyes, but it's doable.
As I said, if you ever feel that you might need help, it's available.
Best wishes
Tammy,
You have posted about being hooked on substances and have not accepted the fact that you are hooked. Until you get clean of these there is no way that you should be considering a career behind the wheel of a truck. There are too many reasons that it is a dangerous and illegal for you to try and drive to yourself and the entire general population. You should be taking the advice of all the posters here and get clean and stay clean before you injure or kill yourself or others. Sure it's hard but not if you want to be able to succeed in life. Good luck
