Bruce, I am surprised that you are wanting to try reefer. I drive a lot at night. I see a lot of reefer drivers out here at 2 and 3 in the morning. Aren't you usually uncomfortable about driving at night?
I had a 2 a.m. flatbed delivery appointment recently. That is odd for a flatbed, but not uncommon in the reefer world.

Old School, I haven’t committed yet and perhaps I should reconsider because of the night driving. I am supposed to talk to A recruiter from JR Schrugel (sp) tomorrow. But at sometime soon I have to make a decision. Also looking at Hirschbach. I appreciate all the leads from forum members.

Isn't Hirshback mostly all least trucks? At least it seems that way when they pass me.
Have you looked into Millis?
I hit submit before I could change my post. H-bsch meant ti be an answer to packrat, then I realized they bought Cristner not Schugel. Whoops!

Got cold feet about going reefer (pun intended). But never say never.
Based on the recommendations others suggested, I decided to follow the advice often given out here; that is to send out multiple applications and see who bites. Thanks to everyone who made recommendations. And I applied to both Schugel and Garner among others. I also applied to Oberg. Does anyone have experience with Oberg?

I know NOBODY with Oberg, (strange for me, haha!) sorry~! I'm really hoping Schugel or Garner works out for you. I'm biased to Garner, of course, but .. dang, they are awesome & pristine! I'd go w/them MYSELF, if they had training, LoL !
How about this: Raider Express..
And another we hear from: K & B Transportation...but I'm not sure if they jump the pond, haha!
Of course, there's these guys: Pride Transport! They have a HUGE hub here in Ohio, as well...and a new one in Utah, with yards ALL OVER the place. Wisconsin is actually a HOT hiring area for them. Dave Reid started with & drove for them, for quite a while; I still keep in touch with him on Fb; and he's stopped here, into TT, per my request. Vicki M. ALMOST went with them; she's got a diary on it, I believe.
So, Mr. Bruce . . . there's 3 MORE for you, good sir!
I'm hoping you post POSITIVITY, soon!

Good luck to you, Bruce.
Michael is going to try to share his schedule with me for the next week as he sure doesn't seem to drive much at night for Marven for the past 11 months he's been there. I was trying to recall any trouble he may have had with a reefer load with them and could only think of one, something definitely related to be being a perishable load. 40,000 pounds of bananas that some other driver couldn't deliver because he got ill. Michael was in the area and they asked him to re-route and take that load to a WalMart DC ASAP. He did so and WalMart refused, was already too late. So he switched back to his other trailer and started heading west. But then it was decided Michael was the best option to deliver for a new appointment time the next morning. But by the time Michael got called, he was already too short of hours to make it back to the trailer so he stopped at the closest rest stop and then drove 90 minutes back to the trailer and delivered it again. This was one fleet helping out another. Michael has never said "no" to a load but this one gave him the most laughs. He just so happened to be swap trailers with another driver this evening not far away from that incident. Not something he does very often.
One of his hardest deliveries was a 700 mile trip with 83 pounds (two pallets) of craft goods for Michael's Stores (two stores for 83 pounds total), difficult long door to back up to. I joked that he should have taken his pickup instead of a 53' reefer. Most of his trips are very ordinary things.

I took the “scattergun” approach to finding a new company to drive for. I filled out applications for 8 companies. After the first one it’s pretty easy because they are Tenstreet forms and they auto fill for the most part. There are minor differences nevertheless so each one needs to be viewed to the end. Really not too time consuming. Of the eight, I have four solid offers, 1 rejection, and 3 didn’t respond. So now I need to pick from 4 companies. The recruiter from each company said I could start orientation on March 7. Orientation varies from a day and a half to 4 days, depending on the individual company. I plan to make a decision early next week after I get a few lingering questions answered. CPM ranges from .55 to .60. Sign on bonuses range from $2000 to $1000. Limited speeds range from 65 to 68 to 70.
One company runs Kenworths. I’ve only driven Frightliners, so can somebody tell me if the KW is superior?
Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.
