As someone who has experience with both types of schools, I can tell that you will get a much better and faster training at a company sponsored school.

Look at Millis. Continental Express. I know there are other mini-mega carriers that train. Anne, Chime in? There are products out there to assist w cleansing the system and even hair follicle. Will not get into that battle on here. Take a few months and get it out of your system. I strongly suggest company sponsored. You will know right out of the gate who will accept you. Pay for schooling only to find out after who will or will not accept you. Good luck!

Thanks for remembering me, George B.; hahaha! Those ARE two great suggestions, as well.. That's why the OP should apply right on HERE, as suggested above, to see who bites. Millis just may!

That's kinda why I had asked for his location; some of my 'secret' stashes are on the wrong coast, for many.

Here's a short list:

  • Raider Express (Mostly Texas)
  • Witte Bros. Transportation (mid regions)
  • Pride Transport (various training/coverage)
  • Mast Trucking (Ohio valley/5 state area)

For starters!! Knight Transportation may be a bit tough to get into, for the O/P...imho.

Unfortunately, Dutch Maid Logistics is NOT currently training anymore; Kerry was one of their last students. I called them and spoke to Jim Burrows in great detail; some of it had to do with the 2/7/22 ELDT mandate, some just a 'glitch in the Matrix,' per himself. They are currently working on building (acquiring?) a nearby training facility, to either partner with and/or call their own. In addition, the Weirs farm in Sarasota, Florida is slated to become another training facility, later this year; early next.

Good info on DML there, for anyone else! Feel free to pass it on and/or share. I'm kinda bummed losing them as a 2nd chance/smaller company, myself.

I keep 'unearthing' new diamonds (in the rough) on a regular, so .. I'll keep ya posted!

ps: There is NO accurate information on ANY of the above (and MANY other companies) on U/A and or hair follicle testing. Companies have been known to change that UP without even updating their websites. Be prepared to pass EITHER! I'm finding this out, trying to help 'update' some of our database(s) on Trucking Truth. The Hair vs. UA is 'never' (IMHO) going to be 100% updated.

pps: I don't know if it's even a thing, but my late Ex used to take 'Goldenseal' to help detox the impurities (many they were) in his body. He drove for LCT (Lester Coggins Transport) out of Florida, back in the day; now defunct.

PPPS: OLD SCHOOL, great post, as usual! I WISH I had the 'BEST ARTICLE' award/trophy banner access.... if YOU DO, PLEASE TAG YOUR OWN, as NOMINATED, by me!!!! Additionally, the O/P should realize that SINCE KNIGHT/SWIFT is a thing now, you kinda DO work for Swift, as well! (Or visa versa, haha!)

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Maybe they do, maybe they don't. I don't know and that's not anywhere near my wheelhouse, but is it worth the gamble of a failed DOT drug test? I'll say no.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Indeed, and agreed.

As I stated above, my late ex used to use 'GoldenSeal' but that was pretty much for passing a U/A ... (he was a truck driver, too.. I sure know how to pick'em!)

Not my wheelhouse, either.

Definitely NOT WORTH the risque !!!

Kerry was one of the last to be trained at DML..... That's probably why they stopped.

When I mentioned the cleansing products, I was not meaning use as to cover up the fact one uses. Get your system clean so you can move forward. But time is your best defense. Best of luck.

I certainly wouldn't dissuade him from trying Knight, but I doubt it. Two speeding tickets that recently....

The bigger issue though is the drug testing, or rather concentrating on passing one rather than living a lifestyle that makes it so you don't have to ever consider it. I welcome being tested. I know with absolute certainty I will pass.

I certainly had believed all the same bull fertilizer about private school and mega carriers too when I came here. Grateful I paid attention to the information so freely given here.

Much luck to the op. Hopefully still here and the wheels of change are turning in his noggin.

I just read Sysco has a CDL program now. Let me research a lil more and get back to you. I will have Anne post the links since I lack that skill. confused.gif

CDL:

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
