New CDL-A, What Questions To Ask Potential Employers?

I hope to have my CDL-A soon. I'm farm-raised, drive the church 15 passenger bus, but have NO tractor-trailer experience. What questions should I ask when I speak with trucking companies about working for them? Of course I want good steady income and would like to do as well as possible while learning this new path. Thanks for all of your suggestions!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Oftentimes you'll start a thread, and not go back, to reply to others' questions, ie: PackRat's! LoL..

Anyway....are you still finishing up with Western Iowa Tech?? Are there any specific companies you 'are' looking at?
