Thank you all for congrats to me.

Old school now that I learned how to drive a truck, I have to learn how to be a trucker. Daniel B. I will make sure I post a pic of my truck when I go for my upgrade. I got to talk to Roadkill on the phone while I was at Springfield. He was at the Pittston, Pa terminal with trailer issues.

I am going to try and keep the rubber on the road, shiney side up and the fiberglass intact. Wish me luck. Now is when the hard work begins. Or so my trainer has told me.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Old School that is why I like and recommend this site as much as I do. The support one gets here without all of the B.S. I bet I have told no less than 30 people about this site in the last 6 weeks. It also great having the veteran drivers here giving out such good advice. My hat gets tipped to Brett and all of the moderators here for the best site on the web for truckers.

I love that! I think I should write an article for the blog with that title, eh?

Not to mention how rewarding it is to see people go from knowing nothing to getting their year under their belt. One day they're asking the basic questions then they drive solo and we get to see it happen all along knowing that we did our "job". It takes time to help people, and often times it's time you struggle to find when you're running hard out there, but it sure is satisfying to see people go from 'deciding if trucking is right for me' to 'student' to 'solo driver and eventually and hopefully an experienced driver.

I am thrilled that I found this site when I was thinking about trucking. And I'm equally thrilled to be giving back and helping those who were in my position not long ago! smile.gif

When you know how incredibly difficult it is to get your trucking career underway you just feel terrible at the thought of anyone having to go into it blindly. The first thing I did was write my book (free online version!) because I thought, "My God! Someone has to help these poor people out! I need to tell them what to expect out there!"

That was seven years ago and thank God we now have a number of incredible people that also love helping others. Because only God and experienced truck drivers really know how much help a new driver needs!

Brett feel free to do as you please with anything I write or say here. Now that I have my CDL A in hand. I get to learn hat it takes to make me into a trucker.

One of these days I may get the privilege of running into Daniel B., Old School or any of the other drivers from this site.

I did get to talk to Roadkill once. I was here in Springfield taking my CDL exam. and He was a the Pittston, Pa yard having a trailer worked on. Only missed him by about a week.

Brett not sure if it would go over very well or not. But would it be possible to add or start a section of who drives for what company. May put it to a vote or whatever. you and everyone else can decide.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
