NY for 1 isn't made for big sleeper cabs lol.....I "Heard" that bridge ain't cheap to cross? $100-$150 EACH way?? Don't know myself, any trips into the state we made was north and in more the country sides. BUT We could see the city tall buildings.....
If n when you do go over it, surely you'll will share that "experience" lol
I may have to make some trips over the bridge to the Hunts Point Market. I can refuse to go there. Why is going over the GW bridge and Hunts Point Market undesirable, according to what I hear?
It’s extremely expensive and extremely slow going depending on time of day.
I run loads once or twice a week depending on my schedule. My most recent run was Monday. I lose anywhere from 1/2’hour to an hour at that bridge. This was at roughly 7 am.
One of the things that makes it frustrating is the design. You have 7 or eight lanes going through the tolls that all weave down to 3-4. You really need to be patient traveling through there. Also, watch your mirrors. .
As I said Bruce, allow for the time to get through it. Last I knew it was 94 dollars one way, but I think they had a price increase .
Hope this helps.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
Toll pass by whatever company Helwig uses will cover the costs going across, so don't worry about.
Hunts Point is not as bad as it was previously for it's reputable past. It is still BIG and BUSY! Think of all the produce and perishables that end up on the shelves in NYC as going through there, like a port-of-entry. I've been there twice delivering paper bags and cardboard boxes.
Do it because it's good experience.

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices
It's tricky, but nothing you can't handle. You have to bring your A game.
Going across the GWB and Cross Bronx expressway will test your patience...and nerves. Lots of traffic, very narrow lanes, and the motorists won't think twice about cutting you off.
Watch your mirrors often, and practice good lane control. Watch your wagon! The most common accident is probably side collisions with your trailer. But don't spend all your time in your mirrors, because the inevitable brake checks will happen... often.
Tip: I stay in the left lane. Yes, I know trucks are prohibited from the left lane, but everybody does it and it's the safest place to be.

Thank you gentlemen. I just spoke with another driver who says the truck toll over the bridge is $300. If that’s true, WOW.
We get an extra $75 if we make the trip. All other assignments are forced dispatch, Hunts Point is the only one we can refuse. But I want to do it at least once, just for fun.
There was a time several years back that I went to the Bronx twice a week. I like what Turtle had to say. My frequent experiences on the GW line up with everything he pointed out.

You will also see signs on the overpasses once you get over the bridge that read, 12ft 10in on the outside lanes. Those are inaccurate. Trucks use all the lanes and the clearance is fine.
I'm talking about the first few overpasses right after you get over the bridge to the NY side. If you get off of i-95 (Cross Bronx Expressway) you'll probably want to take the clearance signs more seriously😉
Just for shirts and giggles, I have done some internet research about this bridge. It’s not quite a mile long and the toll for a 5 axle combo vehicle is under $100, not the $300 I was told.
Interestingly, the claim is that it’s the busiest bridge in the world. So there’s a cool piece of info for trivia enthusiasts.
Cheapest way to cross the bridge is by motorcycle. Or walk, lol
