My DM called me today and matter of factly asked me to swing by our Dallas terminal , said our safety guy had some papers for me to sign.

I replied ok, what papers? He avoided the question and moved on to routine stuff. I asked him again and if I was in trouble or did something wrong.

He said it's not that bad and "just something you have to go through". He then said he legally couldn't tell me what it was.

My smart drive score is zero, I have no incidents or accidents, I can't think of anything that would warrant signing docs or a reprimand.

It could be a random drug test, but why not tell me? I certainly don't worry about that. In fact I welcome them.

Possibly could be that I've got my 100,000 miles and they do a little deal for it, but I doubt it. It's also my 1 year anniversary on the 22nd. But I doubt that would be it. Also, according to our portal I'm still shy of the 100k by about 7k after this load. The only thing I can think is they said my annual MVR was due, but I'm pretty sure fmsca just removed that rule.

I'll call my terminal manager in the morning and ask what's going on. If I did something wrong, I'd like to know what so that I can remedy it and not repeat it. Really perplexed on this one.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I’ve never had to do this but if I got pulled over by a LEO and he asked me if I knew why he stopped me, I would just say: Because you wanted to commend me on my stellar driving!

I hope that’s why you are being asked to come in.

By law they cannot tell you if it is a drug test. Last year in February, I was told to go to Giltner and see the safety lady. I hadn't done anything to the truck and my company was being really coy about it. So, that day I was to pick up my load and had trouble with my trailer not locking to my 5th wheel, which made me late to the shipper (they have never loaded me on time ever...so not a big deal). I never thought to call my office and let them know I was running late. I just figured I'd go to Giltner afterwards, which I did, but everyone was anxious about me not doing the test before I left for Greensboro NC. After we went around about me not wearing a mask and not carrying a letter from my doctor on me, it finally came out that I was to do a drug test. I've NEVER done drugs, so a pee test is not a big deal for me. However, after being in the Air Force and dealing with drug tests without being told that's why I had to see the Squadron Commander, I understood why they didn't tell me.

The next month, March, I got tagged to do another pee test and I was out on the road. I was just told to see safety when I got in. This time though, they told me I had some paperwork to do to throw me off, I guess, from guessing that it was another drug test.

I told them that if they wanted me to do drug tests every month I would since I would always test clean. However, my safety lady said that they get told by DOT who has to do it for that month. It appears to be similar to the Air Force by using a random number in your social security numbers. So I may not have another drug test as long as I'm driving or I may have another one in a month now.

Just hit the sack and don't worry about it. It pretty much can be anything, but I'm betting it's a drug test.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Sounds like a random drug test. They can't tell you in advance. Don't sweat it.

Probably just a random drug test. Nothing serious most likely.

There's no reason to call anybody Davy. Just do as they requested. If you were in trouble they would have already told you what it was. This is a random drug test. They aren't supposed to tell you. Legally they can't.

After my 1st year at CRST my DM called just as we were about to enter CAT delivery. He said he was sending an Uber right then to take me for a random drug n alcohol test. To be sure I got papers for each....By the time I was done, and Uber's back to CAT, my co driver was done getting unloaded lol

Yep, it’s a random drug test. I get the same vague request, when my name gets pulled out of the hat and I’m near an OC… Please come by to sign some papers. Now I like to mess with my handler, and just tell her to fax them on over to the tank wash where I usually am, and I’ll sign them and fax them back. Or to simply email me whatever it is I need to sign, and I’ll get it printed out, signed, and emailed back. I know what she wants, but I make her work for it!
