Broker?!?
Thought you were a company skateboarder.
He's referring to his stock broker or financial advisor. He wants to invest in the tech. He sees potential for above average gains.
Ahhh, okay. Thank you for clarifying. Appreciate that, and apologies!!
Sheesh, this subject has been broached on here, ad nauseam!
And that's the 'tip' of the iceberg. Elon Musk is the other end of the 'burning flame'.. (oh wait, that's Grimes!)
LoL..sorry!

Automated Trucks. It is coming. Sorry if that goes against"conventional wisdom. Tech is already out there and improving.
Tried to answer this before. Apologies if my comments are redundant. I think we will see a dramatic shift in the industry. I also think it is an opportunity to invest. In my lifetime I've watched Google and Amazon grow into.juggernauts. That wasn't something I was interested in at the time. Shame on me.
This won't be a slam dunk investing opportunity but I think there is money to be made. Just like manufacturing and automation. Lot of naysayers there but look at where we are at now.
As for OTR drivers. I think this doesn't bode well for the future. Not trying to be negative. I'd recommend watching this trend and thinking about what is next. It disturbs me to think of the disruptive effect it will have on folks
One of the biggest tricks (scams) in the tech world is to appear like you are about to bust out with something really big. That draws the attention of investors. Many of these so called leaders in autonomous truck technologies have no intention of ever bringing their tech to the marketplace. They are actually looking for someone to buy their company. They could care less if the tech develops further or gets buried by one of their competitors.
They want the easy money that comes from the start-up phase. They don't really understand how to deal with the realities of being profitable in a competitive marketplace. As long as they can sell out big during the development stage they are happy to move on to the next cutting edge tech development.

I'm not a financial advisor. I would never have invested in Tesla. I never in a million years would have seen them get to where they are now.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Automated trucks are not coming. Allegedly the technology is out there otherwise we wouldn’t have Tesla. But like Rob mentioned I’ve yet to see a Tesla where the driver didn’t have their hands on the wheel. It’s not reliable enough for a tractor trailer. Won’t br for twenty years I bet. And where are all these trucks going to charge up at? Good luck with that.

I'm sorry, but you've been snowed by the tech evangelists. Old School is right. Autonomous trucking is making billions of dollars for startup companies as the big corporations buy anything these fools put out. Why? They're afraid of being left behind. Self-driving tech isn't within 25 years of making an impact on this industry. At this point, it's a marketing gimmick. If we were serious about self-driving vehicles we would be installing the infrastructure needed to support it. No one is even seriously discussing such an investment, let alone building anything.

Interesting. I 'd like to make a friendly bet on it.

What is your bet exactly? This morning I had to blind sight off a narrow side street into a full parking lot into a outside loading bay with a brick wall on the blind side. Many more obstacles than I’m mentioning. I’d enjoy watching a driverless truck do that. But sure I understand your response would be you mean otr. When I pulled out of there though there was a bad accident at an intersection. Had to make a left. Two left lanes. Outer was blocked. Officer told me to take the inner lane and keep it tight as possible. How is a driverless truck going to deal with that? That’s certainly something and otr driver would come across.
Interesting. I 'd like to make a friendly bet on it.

Embark is scheduled to deliver the first batch of self driving trucks to Knight by end of the year.
Also CH Robinson is working with one of the major self driving companies, just google tbat to find the exact company

How many others failed in the Dot-com Bubble?
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Bring that self driving truck into any of the upper Midwest states during the winter when there are no lanes to be seen, let alone on the dirt roads I take to various dairies and livestock facilities. I’m not the least bit worried about being replaced by a self driving vehicle anytime soon.

Still waiting for them to get automatic toilets and faucets to work. Maybe after that.
