CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I don't understand what you are asking?

30 hours of what? Driving or classroom? Most schools require at least 180 hours to keep accreditation. In a lot of cases, as little as 10 of those hours is behind the wheel on a public roadway.

I live in New Jersey and we don't have the biggest driving schools that have those training hours and the driving school i just visited the most hours they give you is 30 hours. I want to see if i could go out of state to receive better training. Unless i could graduate from it and see if there companies that will train you more

My advise would be to look into a company sponsored training program. I do not know of any companies that will hire you with out completing a school. The training you have will give you a leg up. Just apply to a bunch of company sponsored schools and see what offers you get. Then decide where you want to go.

Company Sponsored Training:

A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.

The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.

If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.

Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.

DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL!

Seriously. Avoid it like the plague.

Companies require at least 130 hours of training time if you're going to a private school (sometimes even more than that). 30 hours is absolutely nothing and I promise you that you won't land a job.

Find a different school that doesn't have their head up their rearend or go to a company sponsored school. All this school is going to do is rob you of your money and you'll be jobless as well.

Do you mean 30 hours behind the wheel or 30 hours of total schooling?

The #1 thing you have to do when choosing a truck driving school is to get a list of major companies that hire students from that school. Call some of those companies on the list yourself from home to verify this. If several major carriers will hire their students then the school is at least up for consideration. There's more research to be done before making your final decision, but that's where you start.

We have a chapter in our Truck Driver's Career Guide on how to choose a truck driving school also. Follow the two links I gave you and you'll learn a ton about what to look for in a school and how to evaluate them.

If the school you're referring to has 30 hours behind the wheel and in the area of 130-160 hours of total training time then they're probably worthy of consideration.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
