An incident per se won't keep you from getting a job... But one right before you want to apply may. Put some time between the incident and your application to the new job. In the mean time, see if you can get on a prime dedicated or regional if that is what you want. The fleet manager or operations manager can help.
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
How does a company determine if it’s an accident or incident?
I had scraped against a road sign with my trailer a couple days after going solo and Schneider put it in as a preventable accident, non dot but still.
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

A DOT recordable is considered "FIT".... Fatality. injury, or Tow. Either vehicle could need a tow.
Some companies seem to put a price tag on whether or not they record it as an accident. For example... You do $1000 in damage to the truck but it was drivable.
Your company can tell you incident vs accident.... And often they will remove incidents from your record if you are trying to apply elsewhere and you request their help.

Good morning everyone Last night I had my first preventable incident. Trying to get a washout at the BLUE BEACON in Jackson MI and I took a wrong turn and hit a dead end. Trying to get out of this dead end I was attempting to do a uturn (had plenty of room) but I didn't see the ground poles on the side of the trailer. I ran smooth over one and it got stuck under the trailer causing damage to the skirt. I've been otr a year with Prime and haven't had any other incidents or accidents. I'm currently looking for a dedicated route with another company and I'm just trying to see will this prevent me from getting another CDL JOB. THANKS YALL
CDL:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Dedicated Route:
A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
