I want to thank everyone for the well wishes. If it weren't for all the support from everyone here, I may not have taken the plunge. I'll keep everyone updated ask I navigate the next steps on my journey.

Congratulations Thomas and best wishes. I’m assuming that is you in the picture with your name. You sure look like a trucker.

But who is the older guy in the picture with you? Grandpa? Lol

I now have my physical and drug test scheduled for next Friday. One more step now in the rear view mirror. after that I get to wrangle my way thru the bureaucratic nightmare that is the West Virginia DMV. That hopefully is the last hurdle between me and Wisconsin. Until next time, be careful out there....

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Man, I can feel ya, re: the DMV!!! If WVa is 'any worse' than Cali (or IL or OH) please lmk!

I had an accident in Parkersburg on the i77 MANY years ago ... 1998 in my PV, and to be honest, they were easier to get accident/etc. info from, then my OWN state of departure, haha!! (Here!) Needless to say, I never made it to destination, but I'm alive to tell about it, and I wasn't at fault, nor in a CMV. One was not involved, either.

But for, a Valley Transport driver (from Ashland Ohio, by me) kept me on the CB, and gave me his jacket; I've still got it. Truckers ARE good peeps! Yep, those flatbedders!! ;)

Best to ya, good sir.

My thing is that in order to take the written exam, I have to fill out the forms, including my papers (medical, birth certificate, etc) pay the fees, then wait for an appointment card to be mailed back to me. I can't just walk in, hand over my stuff and sit for the test. Craziness, just craziness.

So, another hurdle cleared. I have my DOT physical completed, and I have my "test card" to sit for my written exam. My plans are to be at the main DMV when they open at 8:30 in the morning to take my test, so I'm on here running thru the High Road Training Program for a refresher before tomorrow morning. This is it folks, the last hurdle before entering training.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
