Jeremy B.,

I've also applied to Stevens trucking school but never heard back. I'm just trying to figure out the best and most affordable way to do this. Truck driving is what I really want to do.

And you've called them HOW MANY TIMES?? I got a reply from them AFTER I called them a few times after I applied. They have strict rules about being unemployed and they are also strict in terms of your past driving record & criminal record but not much different than anyone else. They have contacted me multiple times once they understood I was qualified and interested. To them, I'm no different than you so CALL THEM. The number is : 800-333-8595 . . . punch in x 1185 or ask for Justin. Tell him you already applied online (you did, right? IF not DO IT NOW) and they will go over your application with you right then and there. If you qualify, they'll give you a show-up date and you're headed to their school and what lies beyond . . . CALL 'EM NOW (or during business hours - which ever comes first.) (** This offer not legal where taxed or abridged, we are not responsible for any and all offers made or refused. Applicable sales tax applies in Texas, Mississippi and Guam. Do not fold, staple or mutilate.**) JUST DO IT !! (I saw that on a billboard somewhere).

I stated before I haven't called them yet. But I will. I applied last week. I also stated that when I applied to swift they called me within a couple of hours of me applying. I'm just asking for info on all of this but I'm getting the feeling some of you are just not understanding what I'm saying. I also stated I will call them tomorrow. So I've called them HOW MANY TIMES? None, yet. But I'm going to. I didn't call swift at all. They contacted me after I applied online. The same way I applied to Stevens. Seriously are you reading my posts or just the first one and making assumptions, which is what it seems like...

No I didn't call them after I applied.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, call and check on the status of your application!!! I can't stress this enough! Sometimes you have to show these companies that you want the job more than the thousands of other people who applied at the same time as you. Sometimes you have to put in a little more effort to get the job. Sometimes when you call it will cause your application to be bumped to the top of the processing list. What if your application never went through? You could be sitting around waiting for nothing. I could go on and on with an endless list of reasons to call. This is one of my biggest pet peeves! I hate to see people say they have not called. What the heck are you waiting for? A red carpet and bells and whistles and confetti saying you got the job haha? CALL every single place you apply to within 3 days of applying. This goes for any job, even outside of the trucking industry!

No I didn't call them after I applied. Their add said apply online and they'll get in contact with me. I see how it would be a good idea for me to contact them rather than wait for them to contact me. Thanks I'll give them a call tomorrow. Sorry for the typos. New phone and I'm not used to the keyboard.

you have to remember that these large companies get thousands of apps per week and sometimes they can call right a way. But sometimes things get over looked and that includes apps. Also when applying if there is a company that you really like and qualify you will need to call them everyday to get a status update so to speak. What you are really doing is keeping the recruiter looking at your app and keeping their attention on you and letting them know that you are really interested in working there.

Recruiters are human and if something makes their job easier they are happy. Someone really wanting to work for their company is easy to get in the door and they sometimes will give it some extra attention

Ok, I understand you only have $300. Guess what? You can get through school on that. Companies like Prime, Knight, etc. will buy you a bus ticket to get to school. They will pay for your hotel while you are in school. Some of them even cover your food while you are in school. When I went to school, I wanted to not spend a lot of money. I bought a crock pot. I spent a little over $100 on food for three weeks. I made a roast that I ate off of for 4 days. I bought cheap baloney for sandwiches. The point is you can make it through school for very little money. You seem to be defeating yourself before you start. You have only applied to two companies because they are close to you. You have many more options. If you have a good background, good driving record, and good work history then you have a lot of options. Also, if you do need more money, get a job at a temp agency until you figure out what to do. Anybody can get a job in fast food today. It is not a perfect job but it pays something. Find a way to get it done. You way of thinking is stopping you dead in your tracks!

Hey, I'm gettin' old . . . just because I read something doesn't mean I remember what I read 10 seconds later . . . sorry if I sounded like I was ragging on you . . . just wanted to emphasize my point . . . seemed like good advice to me AND I tried to keep it light - that's what all the nonsense at the end was for . . . remember, most people have good intentions most of the time . . .

Ok cool thanks for the info guys. I understand your point I for some reason had never even considered that they get thousands of applications. I guess swift calling me back so quickly kinda just set me in the wrong state of mind about that. Jopa that comment was an attempt at sarcasm from an exhausted me. When I read it a minute ago I thought wow that didn't translate well in writing. Lol. Seriously thank you for the advice guys. I'll take it!
