For the most part I think it is unfair to judge a person based on the job that they do. Instead, consider how well they do their jobđź‘Ť
Yep, you're right on the money. Anyone who does and honest job is to be commended. Surprised at how many people were offended by my sarcastic remark about a "prestigious" job. That's why I put it in quotation marks, it was a tongue in cheek remark.
I too worked in the restaurant industry for years and would always tell the waiters to not go crazy with all that cash they made. Of course I knew exactly how much they made in tips but they used to exaggerate a little or a lot to their peers.
It's also like some people in the trucking business who constantly brag that they pull six figures and up. One of my best friends used to do the same and when he offered me a job and we looked at numbers, after expenses, insurance, repairs, gas and the many things that come with this, he wasn't pulling nearly as much as he used to claim he was.
But anyways, good day to you all, stay safe
Howdy, Cool A.
I'll start over, as well. (Thanks!)
Welcome to Trucking Truth....! Whom DO you drive for; or did I miss it?
Tom & I did pretty well with my restaurant background, and his driving over 2mil miles..Not EVERY gal is Everlast ... ya know?
Sorry to hijack, O/S. Just gotta say, PJ is someone you should look at and/or follow here, Cool A. He's an O/O that was pulling tanks, and just got 'tanked' somehow... financially, so he's going back to hauling concrete. Look at his bio/photos/et al. He doesn't even brag about his 'PurtyPete' as much as I do, haha!
Carry on; just ease up on us 'restaurant folk!' I know, we've got Dr's and Lawyers up in here... they need(ed) to eat, too!
~ Anne ~
ps: When I hit a big 'bounty' tip wise.. A.) I didn't brag. B.) I'd SHARE with my cook &/or BOH that made it happen!
pps: George B. .... I LOVE RATM!
Anne your a riot, thank you for your kind words. I just do what I do… And for the record I’m not pulling concrete, lol. They are very pretty rocks, aka granite, lol.
I just made a business decision that is right for me.
OS, you know what a rookie I am. You’ve heard the phrase “a nickel for ever time” well I wish I had one for every LO/OO that’s told me…… you won’t get rich working for them, mega carrier’s rip you off, to make real money you have to work for yourself blah, blah blah. Like you I’ve previously owned my own business (3 ReMax franchises and Auction Co). Frankly, I like the no stress of ownership, do my job and call it a day. I’m not a rocket scientist but can figure 100% of risk vs 3-5% additional profit over company driver. The other side of this goes along the lines of I don’t work for anyone else, I’m my on boss etc. Well guess what we all have something/someone be it customers, creditor or family driving us. Had I entered this business in my 40’s probably would have looked at OO myself, was up for the challenge then. Much like you in this case I move along, often wondering were they trying to convince me or themselves.
