Hello new to the forum, i got my cdls in 2012 drove for 2 years and quit to raise my children after getting custody of them. then in November of 2021 got a driving job with schneider and drove with them for 4 and 1/2 months enough experience to get hired by marten where i had best driving job ever. well about three weeks ago i was backing in to a dock and my front fender rubbed against a yellow concrete pole and scratched the fender and left yellow paint on fender i did not report it and when i got my 30 day inspection that we are required to get at marten shop guy asked if it was fresh and i said yes he ask if i called it in and i said no and told me to call it in cause he had to report it so i did and after being scolded by the lady on the phone for not reporting it right away. well 2 days later i was called to the office and was terminated for a preventable accident and not reporting it and was told it was going to be on my dac I've already called 2 tucking companies and either of them will not hire me the recruter at jb hunt that i spoke to told me about this site and said i should check here for any advice so i was wondering if my driving career is over or does anyone know of a company that might give me another chance, thanks Bryan

You're required to get an inspection every 30 day's? Yikes. It's on you for not trying to buff it out and or take care of it out of pocket knowing an inspection was coming up.

It makes me chuckle how different certain accounts off the main company are. How the uppers will hide ****. Last week I witnessed a CR England guy drop his trailer coming out of the trailer shop. I took a picture and texted my boss and we laughed about it. Later he said he asked the CR manager about it. Oh the trailer shop kept it hushed and rushed to get their bobtail to crank it up for him. No big deal. LOL. Saw a useless express driver drag his tandems 800 feet. He didnt notice when he got out at the guard shack. Went another 300 feet and finally noticed.

There has to be a mentality with people who want to do the Dollar Accounts. And the things the managers will do to hide everything to keep drivers.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

Tandems:

Tandem Axles

A set of axles spaced close together, legally defined as more than 40 and less than 96 inches apart by the USDOT. Drivers tend to refer to the tandem axles on their trailer as just "tandems". You might hear a driver say, "I'm 400 pounds overweight on my tandems", referring to his trailer tandems, not his tractor tandems. Tractor tandems are generally just referred to as "drives" which is short for "drive axles".

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

PackRat, I think (imho) that Larry may have meant re: the mentality, that people take on these accounts...trying to 'prove' themselves, that they CAN. I could be entirely wrong, but .. that's my take!

Peace, y'all! Storming like dang here...probably read about some accidents, soon & again!

Best always y'all,

I've only been a trucker for 9 month's. All on the DG account. I worked at an Amazon sort center for 2 years before I started. For me I wanted to do manual labor and driving a semi was second.

I'm probably assuming wrong. I would imagine you work on the Dollar accounts because you enjoy unloading and learning and caring about actually driving is a second.

It does really fascinate me why people would want to do Dollar accounts, not sure why. lol.

I've had a couple customers that had their docks in trees. There's absolutely no way to get in without doing some freestyle pruning with the truck. I did, it scratched the bumper, I let my DM know immediately. He laughed said don't worry about it, body shop repaired, never heard anything more. Last time I went there I took a battery powered Sawzall to them. I keep my old carpentry tools on board with me.

I routinely rip off the rubber valances under the bumper over potholes and in rough yards. Each time I just send a note to my DM, totally unavoidable.

One final thing, I had security tell me I had to park in one of the spots while waiting for a door. I said politely that as soon as two spots open up side by side I will. He replied to swing around and blindside in around a pole that I just watched a driver contact trying the same maneuver. I flat out refused politely, the spots are designed to pull in forward. I refuse to have someone else jeopardize my marketability.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
