Any tips on logging

Ya know, our High Road Training Program can be done in any order and you can do whatever pages or sections you like. Go through just the logbook section and you'll learn those rules inside and out.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Logbook:

A written or electronic record of a driver's duty status which must be maintained at all times. The driver records the amount of time spent driving, on-duty not driving, in the sleeper berth, or off duty. The enforcement of the Hours Of Service Rules (HOS) are based upon the entries put in a driver's logbook.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Theres just something so wrong with an employer that won't let you off work to go to a Nascar Race...theres a special kinda place in hell for those people...rofl-1.gif

WHAT??? NO TIME OFF FOR NASCAR??? Next you'll tell me they won't let you take time off for NHRA! Jason, I believe we must take some time to "persuade" your boss (with brass knuckles and the like) to give you that time off!

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Well, I hopped in the drivers seat this morning, and straight backed for the first time. I neeeeeddd clutch practice ha ha. Not really, but I gotta get it down because I havent used a clutch ever so just gotta get that muscle memory down. But after a stall and a safe start, I straightened her out, lined back up and backed just fine. Offset backing tomorrow morning first thing so I know that I will get the rest of the jitters out and get it down. The biggest headache of the day was when i went to get my CDL permit test done this morning. I get to the testing site at the courthouse and I take my little vision test. Lady says sir you failed, you have to go get a eye exam and come back. I was like great, what else can go wrong. I asked her what I failed on and she wouldnt tell me. So I made a appointment for 1200 and went and got the whole 9 yards of eye exams ha ha. The doc said that he noticed that I have a color depth issue, but he said that its normal for some people and that I was probably born with it and just adapted to it over time. But he didnt understand because I have perfect vision and my eyes are perfectly fine, and he ran me through the traffic signs and stoplights lol. I know what color is what, I just dont understand what she failed me for, but oh well. I got my CDL permit vision referral form filled out from the the doc so I will be back at the courthouse at 0800 to pass the test. And finnalllyyy have the permit. Feels good to be in that truck finally, but its a lot of muscle memory for me, so used to just using my right foot, but I know practice makes perfect. Cant wait for tommorrow, bring it!dancing-banana.gif

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

Jason...I'd advise you to buy some Icey Hot, or Tigar Balm ( my favorite)....cuz bro...you are gonna have some SORE muscles...especially when you go out with your trainer...you won't get to use the cruise for who kows how long...and holding that fuel peddle down for hours on end wil give you a Popeye calf muscle...and cramps that will make you believe someone is twisting your leg off. the same for your forearms, from holding the steering wheel a,d stress...so get ready !!!!!!

Finally drove and shifted for the first time today. What a motivating experience, but downshifting is a little tough to get down but tomorrow I'll get more practice and get it down better. But man, today was awesome. My offset backing was a lot better today, gotta find the sweet spot and get it in there. I've loved this course so far, look forward to driving more and learning more each day.
