My super classified, super scientific traffic safety study is underway. So far I’ve driven two hours and have encountered 65 vehicles that I have passed, or been passed by, and merging vehicles. Of these 65, only one could I classify as doing something unsafe.

Just an update on this project of mine that nobody cares about, including me.

The FMSCA turned me down on the grant to continue this study, so the funding is just not there. But I completed Phase 2 yesterday. I counted another 65 vehicles that interacted with me. Only 2 were unaware that they were behind the wheel. One was a pickup towing a cargo trailer. The other was a semi/trailer rig. Both passed me and pulled in front of me much too soon. Neither of these vehicles had any traffic behind them to justify such early lane changes.

So, I surveyed 130 situations. Only 3 incidents were concerning. This is from going through Nebraska. Other parts of the country might possibly yield different results. Lol.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
