Once in a while I get free stuff from shippers/receivers. Many drivers are frugal, so free stuff is usually good. Except free advice, lol.

Other than the occasional free sample, etc, what free stuff is available while driving? This can include anything and everything.

BK;

Funny you ask; Tom's last stop yesterday was Pepperidge Farms in Willard. Well, I asked for Milanos (or Goldfish) but the kiddo scored Sausalitos! The cookies with dark chocolate chunks and macadamia nuts, of course. Lucky him.

Prior to that, the Chewy in Vandalia run yielded Roo, the doggo . . . some sort of 'Beggin/Bacon' treats. Ohio sure HAS some goodies, haha!

Smucker's has donated NUMEROUS jars of jellies/jams to my cupboard, Campbell's (Don's favorite...) a case (or 2 or 3?) of SOUP through the times.

The countless load locks/bars that have found their way home..... there ARE many good uses for those; and the rubber mats that USED TO BE so readily available (24" x 48" on up, about 1/8" thick) were useful in SO many ways. Wish we didn't give so many away; we had a stack about 3' tall at one time.

It's usually something, at least once a week!

Next ?!?!?!

Sometimes you get lucky, lol. I once had 3 cases of bagged hershey kiss’s. I used them to barter with mechanics at the company shop to get my truck serviced a little faster.

These days I don’t get that kinda stuff.

PJ, with what you're hauling now, .... I'd be GLAD not to be getting 'freebies,' ...hahaha!

Besides stress/aggravation by how dumb some of our fellow "professional" drivers behave on the road?

I've gotten a case of beef jerky from Jack links, ended up leaving most of it in the office for office staff. Couple dozen meat sticks from some place in SE IA. Wasn't a fan so gave my half to a supervisor that was riding with me that day. 2 cases of various bakery products (breads, muffins, cookies) from a bakery on the NE side of downtown Minneapolis, that I I left with the office staff. Then we also have a few restraunts that always fed me whatever I wanted when I was doing foodservice, and a few stores have offered a free meal from the restaurant inside for doing them favors (like grabbing empty pallets when not scheduled). Place on the west side of Minneapolis last week was giving away cases (4 gallons) of orange juice and iced tea because the bottles had the tops pushed in slightly but still sealed. Case of homemade noodles for unloading my own truck with their electric jack (like I do at our stores).

My father in law drove truck over 40 years and has many stories of receiving so much toilet paper, napkins and paper towels that he'd be stocked for YEARS because the corners of the boxes were damaged/refused.

During my days of P/D, I'd get cases of energy drinks that couldn't be distributed because they were close to expiration. I don't drink that stuff, so I'd just leave them in the break room for people to help themselves.

From what I’ve seen so far with refused pallets of food items, the shipper very rarely wants it back. Once its marked to the dumpster, its fair game. Most of the stuff is odd canned goods that no one seems to want but there have been a few decent scores!! Gourmet pretzels, trail mix, ramen noodles, assorted sauces and condiments, seasonings etc….

Eh only freebie we got was some Little Debbie brownies etc. Got 1 pack at the entry shack, but on our way out, a guy came out to our truck... As we were pulling away from the dock, and handed us a bag filled with more snack goodies. I let my co-driver keep em all, to give to his niece n nephew at home. I'm not a fan of Little Debbie snacks, now if it was Hostess stuff, that's a different story...
