I wish there were loaner dogs that could be returned if they didn’t pass a test drive, lol.
To me, having a dog on the truck is a serious responsibility, so I’m gonna take it slow until I can find the right employee. Is there an “Indeed” for dogs?
Any reputable rescue will take back a dog if things don't work out. In fact, they'll include in the adoption contract that if you can't keep the dog, you must return it to them rather than give it to someone else, or surrender it at the pound. They'll work with you to find a dog that's compatible with your lifestyle. You would just have to explain what your days are like. I'd think maybe an older dog who doesn't need or want a whole lot of activity but would appreciate your company while driving.
I don't think I've eve seen Pitbulls and Parolees do an adoption to an OTR trucker, so maybe this is your chance to be a TV star.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

Love the pug Vicki.
Michael adopted Ginger, a mixed breed, from a rescue who thought it was great that she was going to a truck driver who would be able to spend so much time with her. She weighs about 21 pounds (Marten has a weight limit of 25 pounds). She is full of energy and has been a great companion for Michael for the past year or so.
Micheals dog steals the show. Ha!

Michael’s dog would be a great fit for me. Any brothers or sisters waiting for adoption?

Ginger had a brother that was adopted just before we adopted her.
She is very content on the truck but is very excited when she gets home time. She then acts like she belongs in a circus. LOL

I have thought about getting a trucking companion, too. Some things I have thought about: Must be a breed that has a low exercise need. Minimal grooming requirements is most likely a need. The last thing to consider is where to get your new companion. Some rescuers are extremely picky on the people they will allow to adopt one of their dogs. Rescuers like this will basically try to find a reason/reasons not to allow you to adopt one of their dogs. As soon as they hear that you are a truck driver, they automatically label you as having a profession that is not suitable to owning a dog. It may take some work, but you have to locate a rescuer who understands that just because you are a truck driver doesn't mean the dog will be neglected. It will be helpful to have photos of the inside of the truck and to show the rescuer how the dog will be kept safely while driving. It will also help to show that where you sleep, the dog will sleep. You could also go through a Humane Society shelter or municipal animal shelter to adopt, but finding a dog that is the right fit will likely be a much lower percentage. On the other hand, such organizations are not picky in needing to know everything about your personal life to decide if you are a suitable owner.
Look forward to seeing photos of your new furry friend when you do bring one into your truck.
