That all depends on you… How much hazmat experience do you have? How much winter driving experience do you have???
There are many more rules involved with hazmat. The northeast tends to have more restricted routes than the rest of the country.
Your correct winter is right around the corner. The northeast gets alot, but they are also some of the best road crews because they get alot of practice.
If your comfortable with pulling hazmat and don’t mind the weather it’s worth looking at, if your not then I would pass on it.
I’ve hauled some nasty stuff all over the country and never worried about it, but I have considerable experience doing it.
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
Hey guys, I’m back with one more question. I’ve been offered an opportunity to haul Hazmat loads (it’s in a dry van trailer) up in the Northeast. Primarily in the New England states. Should I take it or should I run like hell from it?
I’ve never ran up in the New England states let alone Hazmat loads and the winter is right around the corner too. I don’t want to set myself up for failure but then again I don’t want to scare myself out of a good opportunity either.
I have done a fair amount of driving in NE states. It's really not too bad. Now, I have no experience with hauling HazMat. My suggestion would be to learn the restricted roads and get a feel for how you would have to route yourself through areas. I think the HazMat restrictions are pretty well posted and give plenty of time to maneuver. Then again, you should already know where you can and can't go before getting to that point. If you have driven NE a fair amount to feel comfortable and you have hauled HazMat to feel comfortable and you have driven in the winter a fair amount to feel comfortable, then I would say take the opportunity. I am guessing that you really want the opportunity and just want to hear the negative aspects to weigh that against what you would really like to do.
