I would choose the same company I did 10 years ago; Swift. Otherwise, Prime would be my backup option.

He can't.....been denied:

All the big ones I sent out the recruiters called me and I’ve gotten denied only by swift because I got a ticket last May going to the Grand Canyon for failure to stop at a stop sign.

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Well BAM. Hope you enjoyed that…

“otherwise Prime”.

I believe CRST is 100% teams now. Meaning you sleep in the bunk while the other driver drives and vice versa. For some people this is a fine arrangement. For others it's not. I believe team drivers get paid more than solo drivers but I'm not sure.

I'm new to this industry but these are just some things I've heard.

Ok sounds great. So who would you guys choose now CRST, CR England, Schneider, Prime, XPO, Wilson

Yes, ditto what G Town said. Concentrate on getting your entry level job, it could be Swift, Prime, Schneider, CFI or others. Spend a year there and then you will be in a much better position to evaluate and fine tune. The first year is what is necessary to learn what you need to learn.

I can assure you that Kearsey does not sell Prime… at least not on here. Objectivity, comprehensive factuality and common sense is practiced by all the mods and all but 1 of the experienced drivers on here when it comes to offering advice on any company.

I bristle at the term mega carrier. Notwithstanding, prime, cfi, knight (although if swift declined, knight may well too, but then again I had a few speeding tickets and got hired), there are a lot of great carriers out there that if you're motivated, you can do well at.

Well Pelican, not being a fan of team driving, I still went to CRST, in Riverside, Cali. Was easy and convenient for me at that time. I stayed there 22 months. Yes they are pretty much all teams, hardest part, was finding a co-driver, you could get along with. Took me 4 guys to find a "Driver" not some lazy guy who wouldn't sleep, then his shift cant drive but a couple 100 miles, then ! need to sleep!!

I started at $0.31 mile (whole penny more for my short Navy stint @ 17) May of 2021, they gave company wide raises for 1 year+ service So I got bumped up to $0.60 cpm , was great since we ran 6400+ miles a week, not killing ourselves. Besides, I ended up on the board of 1 of the 4 regional head DM's, so he took good care of us pretty much, on miles/pay/layovers...

So, all in all, they were a good place to start out, even with such a high turn over rate....Now I hear from friends still there, they've gotten pickier who they hire and train, not just every Tom,****,or Harry of the street (SORRY ANNE not ur Tom haha).....They have also switched over to tablets in cab, and hair testing now also....

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

CPM:

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

Having a terminal near your home is not critical at all, as several have pointed out. The company I drive for has only one terminal and that terminal is 900 miles from my home base. While I enjoy the times I can get in there, mainly so I can personally irritate my DM , it matters not in the least to me.

That being said, I have a good friend who just got a job as an instructor at Werner, or I should say Roadmaster which is owned by Werner. From what he has told me about Werner’s current policies for drivers, I would certainly give them a long hard look.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
