If you look at the HOS rules for within the 150 air mile radius; CDL holders cannot exceed 14 hours of on-duty and still legally drive. Even true if driving a CMV that does not require a CDL.
Without being told; I log my on-duty hours everyday using paper, so I have some proof documenting my day and how long I worked. Simple… start at 0630 and stop between 1500 and 1600.
I’ve had 2 job interviews in the last year requiring a road test, each test lasting for 15 minutes tops. In both cases 34 hours clicked-off before I returned to work. Did I log the 15 minutes of driving? No. Am I required to? Technically, yes. Practically, probably not. I’d honestly like to hear from former LEOs like PJ to better understand the implications of the road test during a job interview.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:
Job interviews are just that. Your not an employee usually during the time a road test is done. You have no company information to put on your log. Your not that company’s employee, you don’t have your own authority, and if your still employed by another company the road test and driving is not apart of them.
Testers are all working under the 150 mile exception and that extends to the person being tested.
In my case since I do have my own authority a better case could be made for me to need a log, but most folks taking a road test with a company don’t have that issue.
Thank you very much for the answers.

I, as well, would love to know the 'right answer,' should there be one.
Thanks; got a few coming up, also... never thought of this, but pretty sure it's nil.
