The companies will constantly try to convince you to lease, here is something you should expect. Pretty convincing, don't fall it everyone!

Hi Daniel,

The pay for O/O is $1.065 PM. And the fuel sur charge is paid on all miles. You ran 10,648 in your last 30 days. Had you been an owner operator you would have made around $4317. That is after all your expenses except taxes. Do you want to make more money? Give me a call so we can answer any questions you have.

They do try to make it sound good but they don't mentions anything about miles could be crap one week and you still have truck payment and insurance that comes out reguardless of miles run that week.

I know most people know this including you but the numbers I am about to throw out is really meant for the new people to understand what the expenses REALLY are for owning a truck and how it does not sound as good as they make it.

Let go with the $4317 profit they used. Make it $4300 for easier math. That's $1075 per week. Now let's look at the taxes they did not take out. I will use a low number since I don't know the tax rate they will be using. Let's says $200 a week just on the revenue generated from the loads. Then add in another $50 dollars a week road use/ifta(fuel tax). That comes out to $875 a week. In the real world the taxes on $4317 would be higher. Closer to $275 to $300 but I used low numbers cause I do know it would be at least that much.

Heck I make a little over $875 a week as a company driver and I drive company equipment. I have no expenses other than living expenses. If I break down and have to go into the shop I get a paid hotel room and rental car to drive around town. If the truck will be down more than a week I pack my stuff and head to the nearest yard to get another truck. Can't do that if you have your own truck.

Basically I said all that to say as a lease driver for that company you would make as much as I do as a company driver. Hardly worth it.

Owner Operator:

An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.
