Well, I don't know if it has to be online, but all the ones I've seen and the one I did were online. It's just a requirement for a "class" that meets whatever the requirements are, which I'm not sure the exact requirements.
So class/online class, then fingerprint check, check came back, I went to do DMV test(and then I had to wait to get my CDL as opposed to just permit before I could actually put the endorsement on my license)
I think you can technically do the background check
Hey guys, I am a new instructor and trying to give my students the correct info on this endorsement. When I got mine, I just went to the DMV and took the test for HME endorsement. After I got my CDL, I went to the TSA and they did the background. That was it. Does anyone know if this is still the procedure or is there an online course requirement that needs to be completed before the test at DMV?
Thanks! - Brian

There is a course that is required. I believe that members on here have reported that the course is available online.

This was brought up recently in the training thread "Florida State College ..."
The site recommended to me was midwesttruckdrivingschool.com. I signed up, paid the $89, watched the class of just over an hour, then took the test online. This was a Saturday night. On Sunday they had already sent the results to the TPR (training provider registry) that I believe is what the DMV pulls to see if you passed the test.

Another thing to keep in mind is some carriers will offer the training free once you're hired. I know for sure Schneider does, Kearsey could maybe say if Prime does.
Recruiters at other carriers could probably answer though they may have old info or not know 100% for sure.
It's only $89 or so but why spend it if you don't have to. Not saying they can't go ahead and self study, just don't bother paying for the official rubber stamp if you can do it for free.
