I love driving out here. Just a total different atmosphere! I’m going north on I-5 decide to pull in first Pilot. It’s a place called Castaic it’s like a semi city , 3 truck stops , trucks parked left and right and down the center of the street. Food trucks everywhere! Had to go in the saloon to pay to load park! Don’t see this stuff in the SE!

You were lucky to find parking there. That place is always packed. I usually park 30 miles to the north at the Flying J in Lebec. Also, the Flying J is at the top of the pass. It’s nice knowing that you don’t have to climb that hill in the morning. If you continue south on I-5, Castaic is the last place to park for about 140 miles until you get to San Diego.. Welcome to Kalifornia.

If you drive in NV, many of the truck stops have casinos. You have to walk through the casino part to go to the bathroom.

Welcome to California, Donna. This time of year is when I enjoy the weather the most. Michael also often parks at Flying J in Lebec and has never had trouble getting a spot there. He also likes it because it's usually a bit cooler up there.

Donna, Michael was at the Marten yard in Jurupa yesterday but now headed back to Nevada.

That’s marketing at work! Years ago we built a Price Chopper supermarket in NY. They had the hvac contractor install a large air duct from the bakery department up to the entry. This was to get the bakery smell to the customers as they entered. These big corporations do these things because their research tells them the strategy works to make money.

I was saving flying j for a back up if I could not find parking at one of the 3 . Has Michael told you, how horrible it is to park at the jurupa yard. However when I do have to go there to wait on a load incoming., there a movie theater around the block, I watched the Elvis movie last time. I’m picking up a load here in Stockton this afternoon, plenty of space on street for a 10 and I’m headed to Boise bright and early morning.

Michael had not mentioned problems parking in Jurupa but says the showers there are gross. That surprises me, I thought a company facility would be better than a truck stop but maybe hiring good help is tougher in the area. Michael has his dog Ginger with him so his adventures while there are taking her for a walk. Michael just called to mention his upcoming home time with mom so I asked him about Jurupa parking and he laughed and said it has been pretty crazy for a while with all the new trailers there, training, etc. and leaving little room for drivers. Michael has his monthly safety inspections done there.

Michael drove from Barstow where he did his 10 last night and is near Salt Lake City now and will spend the night just east of the Nevada state line. He is taking a load to near the Stockton yard due on the 13th. Maybe you two will pass on I-80 on your way to Boise. His truck is the same color as your "old" truck, it's a 2018 KW. The Stockton yard is where Michael had trouble getting to when he first started with Marten in March 2021 as Austin Road was tore up and it stayed that way for a while but no problem now. Except there were no empty trailers to be found when Michael came off home time last time and he bobtailed all the way to Utah. Our farm is about 45 minutes NW of the Stockton yard. There are pretty colors in the mountains now and the clean air and lack of current wildfires don't make the news. The haze you may see is mostly from almond and walnut harvesting dust.

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

It's all about marketing. To check into a hotel in Vegas, you have to walk through the casino sections. Slots are the first thing you see when entering.
