Out of curiosity, why do you think Werner isn't listed in the Trucking Truth CDL Programs page? Does it mean that Trucking Truth doesn't approve of their program or just hasn't reviewed it?

I just haven't reviewed their program. I wasn't sure if they had a training program or not, to be honest. I'm glad this came up. I will look into it and see if we can get them on board.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I was going to start out with Werner's in Fontana, Cali @ Roadmasters, in early 2019 (both in same building there, yes, owned by Werner's) Unfortunately at that time I was going thru my local WIOA program. But then the WIOA program made budget cuts, and were only going to fund $3,500, not the original $5,000. I tried to make it work, but they wouldn't budge with the county on the price. So I went elsewhere, to not waste even more time getting into trucking industry.

WIOA:

WIOA - Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (aka WIA)

Formerly known as the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), the WIOA was established in 1998 to prepare youth, adults and dislocated workers for entry and reentry into the workforce. WIOA training funds are designed to serve laid-off individuals, older youth and adults who are in need of training to enter or reenter the labor market. A lot of truck drivers get funding for their CDL training through WIOA.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Check into Hirschbach too, their info could use an update, they seem like a good one.

I worked for Werner for a bit and would still be there if i didn’t need to get off the road. I did not use road master but I had a friend who did . I think they put you through the school and you pay it back through payroll deduction. Don’t quite me on that and talk to a recruiter.

As far as the company itself I enjoyed working there and did not feel micromanaged. If you are reliable and safe they stay off your case

Yes, Werner owns Roadmaster. My best trucking friend started with Roadmaster as an instructor about 8 weeks ago.
