In talking to the recruiter I asked if they went to NY. They said less than 1% of routes go to NY. I told her everyone was saying dont drive to NY. She said I could refuse to go there but she also said that loads are forced...so I don't know what the consequences of refusing a forced load to NY if I didn't feel ready to tackle that. Does any Prime driver have any experience to share about that?
Are you talking NY in general, or are you talking NYC? A big difference. As far as NY state, they go to/through there all the time. NYC however they don't (or at least very little).
Can't tell you how many times I went to/through NY state while I drove with Prime.

That's a good question, I've just always heard drivers say stay away from ny, but I have no idea if they meant the city or the whole state.... Can so done clarify that?
New York is a breeze. New York City, well it's a little challenging. I've been in the Bronx plenty of times, as long as your careful and have a tough skin you'll be alright.
New York City is what people are talking about when they say stay away from it. Personally, I just wouldn't even worry about it. Prime is a big company and more than likely they go there very little. Any decent planner who knows what he's doing would be not be counting on a brand new rookie to navigate that place anyway.

Actually, they meant stay away from Brett's chickens which are IN New Your state, somewhere near Attica prison . . . bad a** chickens ("Attica! Attica! Attica!")

The red rooster especially! That dude has an anger management problem. He manages to direct it at every living creature around him!
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
What about turning down forced loads? What is the repercussion of that decision if they wanted to send you somewhere you didn't feel comfortable with?

Force dispatch loads are exactly that. They give you the load and you take it. Now if you are not comfortable with going into the area that they want you to you have every right to express your feelings on the issue THEN take the load where it needs to go.
Company drivers are employees there for have to take any load that they are given. While turning down one load may not get you fired, i have seen drivers get fired for refusing one load,it will get your name known as someone that can not be as dependable as other drivers that are willing to take loads where they need to go. You will start sitting alot more at this point. Turn down more loads and you will not have a job. The thing is you agree to this before you start working for the company. Refusing loads is the beginning of the end for a drivers career at that company. Best thing is to take every load everytime because if you refuse the loads you will never be comfortable cause you will not have the experience to do it if you never do it.

This may be the best thing about Primes Training because you, me and anybody else thats new will spend more time with a veteran driver before being put out on our own and for me I think it makes good sense on their part.. 30,000 miles after getting a Class A is enough miles & time we should be ready for almost anything...

I agree. The more time with an experienced driver the better off you will be. 2 hen you are first turned loose as a solo driver you will not feel ready. No one does. That's natural. It's nothing to worry about.
Take your time and take as much time as you need. This one thing alone will be your greatest achievement if you can master it. If you remember it and practise it on a daily basis then there is simply no place you can not go and do your job.
