This is very short notice but I'm hoping someone out there can help. I will be in the Knight's Squire Program but recently read something that bothers me. This guy said he had too many employers in the last ten years so they booted him during orientation. He was honest on his app. Is this possible? I have been honest so is there a chance they haven't reviewed my app before paying my plane fare?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

That sounds like someone is not telling the entire story to me. If they paid for a plane ticket, I am sure you meet the basic requirements.

Im at Squire and that doesn't sound true! He must couldn't pass the drug test or lied on his application.

Okay. Thanks you guys. This is literally my last ditch effort to do something with my life. There's nothing else I want to do besides drive otr. I really hope it all works out. I've had 16 employers in the last ten years. I really need stability and security. I'm hoping you guys are right.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

They're right. People get booted from those programs for lying on their application, failing the physical or drug test, or even having a terrible attitude. But he didn't get booted because he had too many jobs.

And since you're just getting started in trucking they'll normally only ask you for your past 3 years of employment. Once you've been a commercial driver they will require the past 10 years anytime you apply for a new company. But right now they'll only ask about the past 3 years.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
