I have Sirius, Bruce. Whether it's worth getting or not depends on what you want to listen to. It has tons of music stations. Most have some kind of theme. I find the songs are too repetitive. For example, if you listen to the 70's or 80's station, you will hear the same songs over and over again even though there are so many songs to choose from.
I listen mainly to news or sports talk. It's also a great way to listen to your favorite team's games no matter where you are in the country.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
I have had it since before I was driving commercially. I have something tuned in essentially 24/7, and won't drive without it.
I’ve had it for years. Not sure the individual cost. I have it in the big truck, wife’s car, as well as my bike.
Alot of factory truck radios have it in them, all that needs done is turn it on by subscription. If it doesn’t you can get a portable unit and install it.
Right now, I have Pandora and Audible, both of which I use a lot and really enjoy. Sirius would only be about $11 per month, so the cost is not an issue.
The value proposition with Sirius isn't the music or news stations it's the proprietary content. Kevin Hart, Larry the Cable Guy, Howard Stern and others all have Sirius shows you won't get anywhere else. Is it right for you? Well, you can try it FREE for 3 months to find out. No credit card or satellite radio required, just sign up and play it on your phone with their app.
Satellite radio is an interim technology. It met a need once but is becoming less relevant every day as better options become available - like a fax machine. Their subscribers skyrocketed from 2011 to 2018 but have remained flat for the last 5 years as better alternatives (Audible, Pandora, Spotify) have emerged. Part of that is because having a satellite connection isn't necessary as data connections become more ubiquitous, part of it is that their talent stable hasn't aged well. Howard Stern went from a shock jock and a rebel to a fascist. Joe Rogan is far more popular and on Spotify. Most folks under 40 don't even know who Howard Stern is.
Like RD mentioned, it's just too repetitive for me. I got sick of it and unsubscribed.
At first it was like: "Oh wow I haven't heard this song in 30 years. Awesome!"
One week later...
"OMG this is the third time I've heard this song today. Enough!"
My experience exactly. plus once you stop service, they are on you like like a rash to come back until you opt out of all communication. Then again, some folks love it.

It’s all I listen to in my pickup. I hate listening to the same commercials all the time and the iheart radio stations are the worst because that’s all it is. I’ve started using the app on my phone here in the Mack since I can connect it through the Bluetooth. There are a lot more stations and podcasts on the app that you can’t get on the standard radios. I listens to one that’s called red white and booze which is country and classic rock bar songs. It’s probably my favorite right now.
I had it before trucking and still subscribe. In addition to music, you can find channels for mysteries, talk radio, sports (live games), almost anything you can imagine, even a station dedicated to trucking.
I started with a 90 day free subscription that came with my Highlander.
The non-music channels were my company on the road. Nothing like an intriguing story or mystery to keep you awake.
Well, I signed up for SiriusXM. The 3 months free trial was only if you are getting it for a new car. I thought their advertising was misleading, but what can you do.
I hope I enjoy it because their automated process of subscribing was a cluster mess. Very frustrating. Can’t talk to a real person at all.
And for those who think automated trucks are going to replace drivers, I don’t think it’s possible when a simple streaming subscription takes 2 hours of repeated efforts and failures to complete.

My FM thinks I should get SiriusXM for my truck. He had it when he was a driver.
Anyone on the forum have it now? How do you like it? Do you have to get a special radio installed?

Fm:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
