I'm also a fan of dark mode. I'd like it to be default because I only log in when I'm going to post, otherwise I'm just lurking.

I'd be open to write some articles. I have a bunch of time off now so it's doable. I just wouldn't know what to write about, that couldn't be written in a post with feedback.

Man, I've been wringing my hands over this one. I love dark mode. I'm tempted to make it the default across the website, but I'm just not sure.

Fantastic! We can definitely help you come up with some ideas!

In another thread, Davy is posting an experienced driver diary. I thought that sounded like a great idea. The CDL training diaries are a fantastic resource, and I believe experienced driver diaries would be as well!

We could also do a thread each week where people share anything interesting that happened to them. Just a "weekly rundown" kind of thing where people add the crazy, funny, wacky, scary, and odd things that happened during the week. I think that would be fun!

We used to have a newsletter that went out every Friday. I want to revive that. It would be the perfect place for a weekly rundown.

What do you guys and gals think of that idea?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

All for both the revival of the newsletter and the "week in the life" thread.

I vote no on the Dark Mode default. Choice not mandatory.

I've been having an issue since the new site roll out. Admittedly, this issue could be on my end. My technological prowess is lacking in such things. But I'll pose the problem here to see if anyone has ideas.

Since the beginning of my time here on the forum, I've always created a shortcut on my phone's home screen to bring me directly to this general discussion page. After clicking the shortcut, I would be directed to this page either already logged in, or an option would pop up asking: "continue as logged in?" (Or something like that). When I clicked that option I would be immediately logged in and ready to roll.

Now, every time I click the shortcut I must manually log in with my credentials. The steps are as follows:

1- Click Trucking Truth shortcut on home screen.

2- Click drop down menu

3- Click login/register from menu

4-Choose login

5- Click password box

6- Type password

7- Click "Let's get going"

Now I'm logged in...

8- Click drop down menu again

9- Click forum menu

10-Click general discussions

Finally I'm in. Ten steps to get into this forum when it used to take only two. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get it back to the way it used to be. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong, or is this the way it is now? Is there a shorter way?

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Oh and yes I would like to see the return of the newsletter. If anything it could prompt one to read and engage in an interesting article or topic that would otherwise be overlooked. Along with the standard ingredients of a newsletter, highlights or quotes could be...well... highlighted.

Hey Turtle. What happened was at some point, you must have hit "no" by accident, and now it doesn't ask you if you want to log in that way anymore.

I think what I'll do is add a checkbox to the login page that says, "Remember me on this device." If you check that when you log in, you'll see the message that allows you to log in with the press of a button.

If you want to fix it now yourself, you can clear your browser cache. If you're on a phone, here is how you do it:

how to clear your browser cache

I'm gonna look into this now and look for a better way to handle it. I'll give you an update here when I have something.

Turtle,

I have the same issue. About 3 months ago I logged out to see if I could get into an older account that I had set up and couldn't get into so I started this one. When I logged it back in, the option for the quick login was gone and now I have all those steps just like you. It is rather annoying but I couldn't figure out how to go back to the old way. So, if Brett can get that straightened out, that would be helpful.

Yeah, I sure will. I'm looking at it now. I'm not sure if I'll have it ready today or tomorrow, but I'll have a new way of handling it.

This did it.

Funny thing is, I regularly clear my browser cache. But when I do I opt to not include this site in the clearing process for fear of screwing things up here. I included it this time, and all is well again. I get this option when I open the site:

What happened was at some point, you must have hit "no" by accident

Yep, that's exactly what must have happened. And by not clearing the site cache, I wasn't able to fix the problem.

Thanks for the tip, Brett. I told you I wasn't so good at this stuff. I do like the "remember this device" idea.

Thanks for the tip, Brett. I told you I wasn't so good at this stuff.

Hey man, it wasn't you. It was me. I didn't have a system that allowed people to choose to log in automatically or not. I also could not show the message again without making people clear their browser cache.

Well, I've made the update and now I think I have it.

When you go to the login page and manually enter your information, you will see a checkbox that says, "Remember me on this device." If you check the box, you'll see the message next time that allows you to log in with one click.

Say you're on someone else's device and want to log in, but you don't want the device to remember your information. Simply leave the checkbox blank, and you cannot log in automatically on that device the next time.

I've tested it on a few devices and it seems to be working. You guys can let me know if it works for you or not.

So for anyone who has been logging in manually for a while, you should now be able to do it with one click again.

Let me know if this is working for everyone.

Thanks!
