Trash On The Ground

I’m at a beautiful rest area on I40, east of Albuquerque. When I look out my windshield, I see a bunch of trash on the ground next to a trash container. Sad. The Crows love it, an entire flock (a murder of crows) is picking through it looking for food.

Interestingly, a state worker just came over to pick up the trash. I saw him collect a bunch of scale tickets from the rubble and keep them. I wonder if New Mexico uses those scale tickets to track down the person who littered? It’s so sad to me to see such a pristine landscape littered with trucker trash.

BK. This bothers me. I'll never understand why people can't put trash in its proper place. I don't call people names. But boy do we see some people engage in pig-like behavior out there. I hope that's exactly what they're using those scale tickets for.

I have a practice that I do often at my stops, whether on-the-job or personal, and that it to pick up at least one piece of trash, usually within just several feet of my path, and dispose of it properly; and sometimes that means putting it in my trash can in my cab.

It's not much, but it's a little act of kindness. And I surely don't care if anyone sees me doing it, but I'm hopeful someone does and decides to do the same.

I have seen several crews out on the highway this week picking up trash alongside the road. Too bad there's trash there in the first place!

Litter drives me nuts. As a former landscaper, I cant even estimate how much time myself and coworkers/employees have wasted picking up after other people so we could do our job. I’ve seen people drop trash on the ground within feet of a trashcan. Can’t understand the train of thought or lack there of to think its ok to litter

Maybe he was picking up scale tickets for the trading cards that come with 'em.

Another thing that can also contribute to trash being around are birds. I've seen crows, ravens, and gulls create a disaster area around trash cans and dumpsters. Don't forget about bears and raccoons.

People are the single largest culprit, though. Sadly.
