Hi Trucking Friends,

I'm new to the forum and I have been going to a private trucking school for weeks. I was praying and hoping to get my CDL test finished today with no retakes.

Uh...nope. I passed the pre-trip inspection with dazzling colors. Next, when it came to the offset left and parallel, I choked. On the offset, I turned the wheel in the wrong direction!

My offset was a wreck and after getting squared away, I was finally able to put it in the box.

The examiner was all like "Are you good for a parallel?"

I said "Yes" and did not have the trailer inside the box totally.

Thus, I failed.

I took this hard today and going home to the wife and daughter to tell them I failed was hard too.

My retake will be next Wednesday...My hours at the trucking school are maxed out so I only have one day of practice (Tuesday).

While I wanted to be "one and done"...looks like God had other plans.

Pre-trip Inspection:

A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.

Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

It happens.. I had to retake my road test because of the very last curb decided it wanted to jump under my trailer tire. Sounds like nerves. Don’t beat yourself up anymore. Just move forward with it. You got this

I failed backing once and driving the manual twice. No one cares now. Clear your head and good luck.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

So how does it work if you fail a portion of the test? Do you retake the whole thing written, skills and road test or just the portion you failed? How many chances do you get? Do you have to wait a certain amount of time between retakes? Just want to get my panicking done now before i get to the testing.
